Should I crack these out of there protective cases?
Just wanted to share with the forum a buy from an local auction last night. I have not seen these kind of things since I was a little kid.
Reminds me of something you would see in Woolworths Drug Store when I was a kid. I had to have them. Any thoughts,Grades would
bee helpful This is my first Large Cent.

I'd definitely remove them from those holders. They're nice and quaint, but likely have PVC in them.

I see signs of PVC (the greenish tint around the devices) on the large cent already.

Someone got ripped buying those coins at those prices a few decades ago.

remove the coins , but carefully bend the staples and pull them out because I would definitley save the holders .. pretty cool !

I agree. You could probably get by with just removing one staple from each holder, and carefully sliding the coins out. I bet you'll find they're stuck in there though, and will take some gentle coaxing to come free.

You're right - just like the coin counter at Woolworth's! Great find!

(You can do a search on these boards on "PVC" and "copper" for some tips on how to get rid of the green goo. It needs to come off.)

Just realized something with the photos on this coin. In the package is how it looks in hand.
After taking it out and shooting in the same light and same location, could not get the color
like it is in hand. Still learning to photograph coins

I'd carefully remove the staples, remove the coin. Then i'd give the coin a bath to remove any PVC. Then find a non PVC flip, cut it down to fit the card, and put the coin back in the card with the new non PVC flip and staple it together. You need the coin in the original cards.

I like that idea. Except that you need to remove the plastic film from the inside of the old cards, because it'll likely have an image of the coin left stuck on the inside surface.
Maybe the best idea of all would be to simply open up the existing cards and replace the film with inert mylar (after getting rid of the PVC).

Yes, but you can't put the new flip inside the old plastic. The old plastic will still have a ghost image of the coin on its inside surface, which will obscure the view of the coin.
