Ebay auct- 120362819039 --- no way

Can someone post a link. A PSA 8 1959 MANTLE. There is no way that is legit. The label is bogus and that is no PSA 8. What is getting scary with Fleebay is that some of these sellers have like 4000 feedback. Is PSA taking notice of stuff like this? Is PSA taking notice of stuff like this? Is PSA taking notice of stuff like this? This should be a large concern to PSA.

Thats a shame on that card. It very well might not be legit, but the seller is a pretty good seller. I have dealt with him in the past and had no problems.

It is next to impossible to get this kind of listing poofed
by T&S. They have NOBODY there - in a top spot - who
    knows what the score is.

The ONLY hope is that when "honest" sellers are told
about the "problem," they will pull the listings. MOST
just want to argue and tell the heads-up-giver to die.

Bummer. I bid on a few of his auctions.
  • In this Hobby that I cherish and love so much along with hundreds if not thousands of other good honest folk, should have some safeguards in place to protect itself from vandals and despicable people who are trying to ruin it! I am grateful there are people on the CU boards that alert others here when there is a suspicion or outright forgery being offered. On the other hand, if the money companies won't take responsibility for allowing this then they should be legally held responsible! Especially, when they receive notices/emails from concerned collectors that an item needs to be pulled or triple checked! FEEBAY needs to be held accountable somehow. If I got burned for thousands because I bought an item on Ebay that they were alerted that was a forgery or suspected forgery, I would sue the heck out of them -- they have to have some liability for allowing it! Where is it going to end? When there is no Hobby left?

  • This card was sold on 6/4/08. I don't know how to post the picture of that card here. Someone with VCP access can get that file image and post it. The flip has definitely been altered/substituted.

Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all "right-thinking" people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

The seller has sent the card to PSA for a look see.

So lets not pile on the guy as he is trying to do the right thing.

I have a PSA 6 that is way better than that. The label looks so fake also. Not as much red around the border

the card also looks trimmed. IMO

Great job on the sellers part. I doubt PSA will even grade it I believe it is trimmed. If they do grade it I believe it will get a 4 or 4.5

Looks like a fake label has been inserted into the flip in the current ebay auction.

What I also can never figure out is how high the bidding gets. Anyone with 2% knowledge about high end cards can see from the scan that the card is not NM-MT. You don't even have to see the label for this. This card was at about 2 grand when I spotted it. Also, I have some strong words for people who are passing along these type of easily, easily, easily, easily detectable tampered slabs-- "You need to start doing the right thing" not just when you're directed to. I personally would not purchase from this seller. Sorry for the harsh opinion but that's the way it goes.image

In my opinion this goes beyond "weasel" and borders on criminal. If anyone buys fraudulent merchandise, and then tries to sell it, then they are just as guilty as the scammer who sold it to them.

Seller cannot cancel listing with less than 12-hours to go.

The seller stated to me that he sent the card to PSA.

He then stated that if they find the slab to be compromised he would then
    cancel the auction.

I see no problem with him continuing the auction until he finds out what
    the story is.

I'm thinking I was not the first person to email him.

I'm not trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill, but did he send the card to PSA or is he in the process of sending it. If he already sent it then he should have canceled the auction. If he was just made aware of the obviously bogus looking card that 99.99% of all vintage PSA card collectors could detect then I could see the auction running it's course. Either way this is bull crap. image
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
I think he meant cancel as in not cancel it via ebay but tell the winner that it turned out to be a bad card.

I see only bad things from this auction.

    He loses either way.

One can tell just by the centering that their is no way that card gets an 8.

Then again I don't have the card in hand so i dunno.

The 6/4/08 ebay auction is too old to be active anymore. However, based on the buyer's feedback from prewarcardcollector, it looks like the auction number was: #110257110814. FWIW.

I really don't know, I only know what he told me. That he sent it to PSA. For all I know he could be BS'ing me.

If it was me and I as told the card could be bad, and I sent it to PSA I too would have ended the auction early.

And if I couldn't because less then 12 hrs was left I'd be on the phone to ebay asking them to pull it.

My rep is worth more to me then 2 or 3 k.

My thoughts exactly about reputation. This appears to be an ugly situation where the seller may have some explaining to do.image

I can find no connection between the 6/4/08 buyer and the current seller.
The card was purchased on a fair-size buying account that has never sold
anything, and never had a controversy; member since 2005, in a southern
    state.

The current seller's listing-picture is a mess. (All of his pics are
    in the same "style.")

I cannot tell - easily and for certain - if it is the same card.
The flip looks much different, and the slab looks tampered.

    I dunno.

I just re read his reply to me and in it he claims PSA should have for him an answer
tomorrow or Saturday at the latest. He implied he has a working relationship with someone there.

I'm thinking he tried to flip it, was told by a few peeps it was bad and sent it to PSA.

He also told me they could not say anything until they had it in hand.

Of course I'm going by what he has said.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • If he really sent the card to PSA and did not want to sell it and was smart. He would have someone he knows put in a proxy bid of $10000 an assure that no one would be stuck with that card.
