I need feedback on seller "game-time-collectibles"

About a week ago, I purchased a 1957 Topps baseball set on eBay from seller Game-time-collectibles. The seller's name is David Hobson and has a website at www.baseballcardbuyer.com. I do not know him personally, but he appears to be a very reputable seller. He has great feedback, a nice website, and I've heard positive things about him from other people.

Now, let me get to the bad news. After I purchased the set, someone on this forum mentioned that the Bobby Richardson card looked to be trimmed. I contacted the seller, and he agreed it was trimmed and would give me a discount. After a day from not hearing from him, I tried to contact him via email and received no response. No big deal, it was the weekend, so I waited until Monday and emailed him again. Still no response, and now I'm starting to get a little irritated, but still understand. I tried to contact him again today and no luck. So I'm starting to getter a little upset that I've received no response after 4 days, but I'm not suspicious at all about any foul play.

So about an hour ago, I check the listing and I see this seller is no longer a registered user on eBay! Uh oh, the red flags start appearing, so I go to his website to get his phone number. I call his phone number and his inbox is full so I can't leave a message! At this point I'm real suspicious that something is going on. I would like some input from you guys on how to proceed. Thanks in advance

Did you pay via PayPal? How long do you have to get your money back from them if it was a "BAD" transaction? If you are still within the time frame, I'd wait about 10 days from the day you won and if nothing is received by then I'd start the process to get my money back from PayPal. I've never had to seek a refund from PayPal, so I cannot be any more help. SORRY.

Great, not the positive feedback I was looking for. Doesn't the fact that he canceled his eBay account a little troubling? Also, I payed through paypal and satisfied all the qualifications to be fully covered, but have never had to go through that process. Hopefully if this all falls apart I am covered. I already opened a Paypal dispute against him. I never open a dispute this early, but closing the eBay account really worried me.

Since I have opened a dispute against him on Paypal, I'm assuming this will freeze his funds and hopefully force some action.

If you choose to escalate the dispute to a "claim," your
refund will likely be nearly instant because he is NARUd.

What is NARud? (I'm guessing "not a registered user?). And no, I did not use a CC, it was taken from a bank account.

always give yourself some added protection in case paypal fails you when buying by using your CC !!!!!!

  • bbcemporiumbbcemporium Posts: 684 ✭✭✭
Good advice, are CC companies pretty good about dealing with these issues?

NARU = not a registered user

Always best to use a CC.

But, a debit card with the MC/VISA logo on it may - depending
on the UA - provide the same protection.

    .........

In any event, PP will give you your money back EVEN if you
    pay with PP-funds.

If I no longer wanted the cards, I would escalate to a claim NOW.
(The chances that the guy will send them are less than 50/50.)

I can't escalate it to a claim for another 90 minutes, but I agree with your advice.

How many 89 Fleer Reggie Millers do they have for sale?
  • bbcemporiumbbcemporium Posts: 684 ✭✭✭
I thought with PP new full protection plan, they would cover the loss regardless if their is money in the person's account (or so I hope). But if someone could shed some light on this it would be nice.

    No.

On an EBAY transaction, ALL PP-buyers are covered by BPP.
Both INR and SNAD are covered, regardless of funding method.
(PayPal pays, EVEN if they cannot get the money from the seller.)

AWAY from EBAY, there is NO "Buyer Protection Policy." Instead,
there is the "Buyer Complaint Policy." The BCP covers INR, if funds
are in the account. The BCP does NOT cover SNAD.

PP is a joy for honest sellers to use AWAY from EBAY.

Thanks. I still can't figure out why this guy would've canceled his eBay account out of the blue. If someone unregisters their account on eBay, can they re-register it at a later date and still maintain their previous feedbacks?

I doubt he cancelled his account.

"We are unable to return search results because this seller's account has been suspended. We apologize for any inconvenience."

    ................

Looks like one of his DSR stars may have fallen below 4.1 and then
popped back up. He would have been suspended for that, but not
    necessarily NARUd.

If his credit-card on file expired, he could have been NARUd for
    non-payment.

    ..............

He had a bunch of pending sales. Hope nobody gets burned.

    bbcemporium,

    For what it's worth....

David Hobson's bank denied a direct pay debit, thus freezing his account and as a result his eBay account was temporarily suspended.

Ebay has since acknowledged it and he will be back online soon.

Unless I have received false or inaccurate information, I would imagine David will take care of your situation. I have personally dealt with David numerous times and have never had a problem other than slower than most delivery times.

I would try emailing him again @ quote@baseballcardbuyer.com or phoning him @ 1-(800)-408-2955.

    Good luck,

    Thanks,
I got in touch with David today and we got things squared away. He was on a buying trip and hadn't checked his email, anyway he sent me my cards overnight and I should be receiving them tomorrow. I'm quite relieved things worked out. He turned out to be a pretty decent guy, but I'll feel a lot better when I have the cards in my hands.

Well, I received the 57 set today and it looks great. The Richardson was trimmed, but everything else looked nice. Once again, thanks to members who posted, I appreciated the advice.

Your Seller is back on "fee-ebay", and his feedback seems ok!

Glad you got your '57 set, ...and possible "seller relief" for the trimmed Richardson!
