Ebay offers automatically declined?

I havent been buying much lately, so this may be old news.

I just attempted to make an offer on a BIN item and it was immediately declined. I bumped it up a couple of bucks and it was again immediately declined.

What's the point of having that option if the seller already has a certain dollar amount that needs to be reached?

  • very common to automatically decline if its a lowball offer (not saying that yours was) usually the seller has a minimum they are willing to accept.

Sellers who are tired of getting $10.00 offers on $100.00 items use auto-decline in their listings.

Remember when there were TONS of bidders on EBAY?

In many categories, items never make it above the opening bid.
That makes auctions redundant, and means that BINs are the
only way a seller can make money.

  • It also works the other way. I made an offer and it was accepted within seconds. Both times.

yep. I remember when Ebay didnt royally piss off all the sellers and I also remember when the site was easy to navigate.

    they have screwed the pooch!

  • Current state of eBay. If you have a card that typically sells for $50, you have to start a regular auction at the minimum you are willing to accept. For me that would be about $35 for a $50 card. If it only sells for the minimum bid which is likely, you only net about $25 after all fees and shipping costs. Ebay store item with a $50 BIN only costs 5 sents to list. FVF is lower than a regular auction. Ebay is pushing every seller in the direction of the storefront. Why do you think the site has been updated in a year but eBAy stores has been updated 3 times in the last 3 months?

I don't add the auto accept or reject to my listings. If you make a $1 offer on a $10+ item, I just decline and block.
  • that auto decline is a lifesaver if you have a lot of listings. otherwise, you'd spend half the day rejecting $10 offers on $100 items. it's amazing what some of these people will offer. the auto accept is also convenient, but I don't usually use it just because I like to wait at least some of the time limit to see if a better offer comes along.

Is this true? Are FVF's lower for store items than for auctions? If so I've definitely learned something today.

Without doing the research to give you full details, it depends on the value of the item sold. I can't remember the cutoff price. Easiest way to get to Powerseller is high volume store sells. Powersellers get and even higher dicount on FVF's than your average seller but again, I don not recall the exact numbers. The simple fact that I can list a $20 card for 30 days and only cost me 3 cents is the biggest draw for me.

I thought it was cheaper to list but the FVF were higher.

Store Inventory FVF's are higher than auction FVF's. In stores they start at 12%, then go down to 8% for any amount over $25. For auctions they start at 8.75% and go down to 3.5% after $25.

Yes that is what I thought.

    Good for you.
  • I was referring more to the Powerseller FVF's. For me, the drastically reduced listing fee more than compensates for the increased FVF.

yep ebay sellers can set a minimum bid amount and if you meet this then your offer goes through, if not, you will be automatically declined.
