Tried to find an appropriate page for my question, but this is the best one I could find.

Anyway...I've been offered two tix to a Billy Joel concert in Vegas on Feb 14th at MGM Grand. I enjoy his music, was wondering if anyone's been to a Joel concert and would recommend attending the performance. The tix have a face value of $183 each, which I thought was kinda steep, but the tix are free. Is his show worth the effort to attend the concert? I would have to juggle a few things to go, but at $183 each, the seats can't be too bad I think. Travel expenses are a non-issue.

Thanks for responses.

I was at the Hard Rock Hotel and casino, this weekend, playing in a Poker tourney, and at the same time, there was a Billy Joel concert going on! When I was "on break", I spoke to some who saw the Billy Joel Concert, and they told me they were "blown away". And said "Billy Joel was just fantastic; ...he was better than ever"!

So yes! Go see one of the best performers ever! The Piano Man himself, Billy Joel live in concert in Vegas wow! image

Edit: If you can't go, I'll fly out there, if you give me the tics?

I saw Billy Joel in Philadelphia at the Spectrum I guess it was about 15 or so years ago. The concert was very good, not great, but basically as expected and worth the price of the tickets.

One semi-interesting side note - he was still married to Christie Brinkley at the time, and she was there, in the front row right next to the stage standing and dancing around a bit which made for an interesting spectacle as she's not hard to look at. LOL

I saw the Billy Joel/Elton John concert several years ago in Milwaukee. He blew Elton John away with his performance ... energetic stage presence.

Al, I have never seen Joel as I'm not a fan of his, but the Vegas show experience can't be overstated. I've seen a number of Vegas concerts and if you like the performer you're guaranteed to have fun. And if you have some extra scratch kicking around to drop at the tables for a day or two, my vote is to go for it!

Just note though, in Vegas the shows are usually an hour on the nose with no opening acts, so don't freak out and think it was too fast. I took my lady to see Elton John at Caesars on a whim one time and it was fun but we were commenting on at how fast they want to get you back out to the tables. Not surprised, just startled. If Springsteen ever played Vegas they'd make no money with his 3+ hour shows image

Go to the concert. Bill Joel is still a fantastic performer.
  • i wonder how his voice is these days; it can be strained and he has had backup singers sing parts of the song at times.

I have seen Billy Joel 5 times and I can say you will not be disappointed. I personally would never pay that kind of money for anyone but since you said they were free you will totally enjoy the show. Let us know how it goes!!
I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

I was never a fan of Springsteen but in my youth I worked a number of concerts as security. Springsteen came into Chicago on a hot summer day in 1985 (I believe it was 85) on the born in the USA tour. He sold out Soldier Field with 65000+ fans and it was a freaking great show and he played for 4 hours non stop. After that day I was a fan and have seen him a few other times.

There's a joke in there . . . but I'm not going to go there.

I hear that he no longer does "Uptown girl" as that was a tribute to Christy Brinkley and..... well you can figure out why he
    no longer performs it.. image

i've seen him in phila a couple of time and with elton john probably about 4 times. always a good concert, he has trouble hitting some high notes, like in an innocent man, had some one do that for him. but i'm guessing the vegas show will be in a smaller venue and well worth the trip.
