I would bet Mike probably has a signature for doing a custom signature cut card.

I could probably still get a Dimaggio TTM and get it passed by GAI!

Send me a crisp 38 Goudey Dimaggio and I will see what I can do.
  • You should go for any of the following instead ; R312 , National Chicle Fine Pen or Goudey Wide Pen. Although many don't consider them cards they all are from 1936. In addition they all look way better than the 1938 Goudey. The R312 , in particular , looks awesome autographed!!
  • as killingdream metioned in the post above he has earlier Major League issues than 1938, here's what I got of his from 1936, his actual Rookie season(unfortunately not signed):

I have been collecting HOF Rookie Auto's since 2006 and for all the auctions (both ebay and the major auction houses) I have never seen a Joe D signed card from 1936, I've seen A Ted Wiliams Auto 1939 r.c, Jackie, Campy, Satchel, Ashburn, Lemon, Wynn, Auto'd 1949 Bowman's, Just about every HOF RC in 33 Goudey I've seen signed. For example, a Dizzy Dean just sold last month! but I've never seen a 1936 Joe D signed. Unfortunatey when one eventually pops up all of us HOF RC Auto hounds will be pushing our bank accounts to the limit, unfortunately mine is already close to the edge image but it won't stop me from trying!!

    Dan,

Do you happen to know where I could pick up a signed 38?

There's another school of thought which calls his '37 O-Pee-Chee his rookie, because it was a card issued in packs, not a premium.

I think a signed one of those sold in a catalog auction within the last couple of years.

I've seen signed copies of the 38 Goudey and the 36 "wide pen" that chromerookies posted. They are usually in pretty rough shape, but they can be found. I've also seen 2 copies of his Zeenut Seals card signed. One of them is in a GAI holder if I remember correctly. The only one I haven't seen is is 36 World Wide Gum card.

Be prepared to spend a lot for a not so nice looking card.

If you like 1938 Goudey, you then have to decide whether to get #250 or #274. Personally, I like #274 better.

Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.

Ehhh, it is not his major league rookie card, but Joe D. has three different Zeenut cards, and I have seen some examples of those autographed.

Here is an example of a coupon-less version of the Zeenut:

    Hey guys

I have a question............... how much do you think this card will go for?

I know its very rare to find one with coupon attached ................ just want to know price range........

Selling stuff on eBay to gather funds and I just recently sold a few high grade cards to a local friend.

First card....1933-36 Zeenut (throwing or batting pose), no way to know the exact year unless your card has the coupon (99% dont)

First Major League card....1936 V355 World Wide Gum #51 (pictured below).

The 1938 Goudey is no way considered his rookie, if you think that you are just fooling yourself.

    Others...
The 1936 R313 DiMaggio/Erickson...... Joe is pictured batting with uniform number 18 (rookie spring training) and also pictured with catcher Hank Erickson, so some dont consider it a rookie (multiplayer card)

The R314C, aka "Type 4" ("Creamy Wide Pen") is really from 1937 (used to be listed as 1936), and is sometimes called his rookie, but it isnt.

His best early card IMO..... is the 1935 Pebble Beach Clothiers card (all cards in this set are hand signed), look it up in your guide, its one of the nicest cards known and very rare. It is also the first autographed baseball card set, for those that care.

Gonblott -- I would guess in the $15k range

First time I've heard of that particular set - gorgeous cards. I'm not a big fan of b&w cards but those are really, really nice. And to be autographed, too? Wow.
