What is up with the price of 2001 Upper Deck golf cases?

The last time I noticed they where selling for $59.00 a case. I thought is was because of the amount that was produced ,(tons of product). Now I see that they are selling for $150.00>

That is 1 in 250 cases!!!
This was one of the most overproduced products anywhere. There is nothing in these boxes, wether you are paying 8 a shot or 50 a shot.

<< <i>There is no reason for this just greed. The auto odds are 1:3000 packs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You got that right...but being the sucker that I am, I still blow a hundred or two each year on modern crap looking for something good. LOL

Steve...it depends on what you are buying. If you are looking for profit or "your money back" then you can ignore 95% of the products out there. If you
were really smart, all you would do is buy bowman draft. You can make all kinds of money on that stuff. Modern junk cards selling for 2 and 3 grand!
It is unfair to call 2001 UD golf just another modern product. The hobby was ready for this and Upper Deck knew they didn't have to put anything in it
(which they didn't). They ran the presses and ran the presses and all those Tiger Woods RC came out and then PSA and BGS made a ton..blah blah blah....
Im with you Steve, I blow a lot of money on modern stuff...some of it is real junk, but hey its something to do and I enjoy it and hope to pass that on to my boys.
That is all that matters!

Good point - I know almost nothing about modern except for the dam sales pitch on the box and get suckered in to buying it. Every time I read here about "something good" to buy, it seems I can't find it in the local stores. Honestly though - blowing $19.95 around once a month to take a shot at something good is sorta fun when I'm in the mood - and frankly most of the modern cards are dam nice looking cards, and I still keep them and enjoy them, even though they don't have much value, except to me having paid $19.95 for the box - LOL

288 packs per case. 250 cases would be 72000 packs.
<< <i>There was a great read on some guy in college who ended up busting hundreds (or possibly thousands) of cases with his buddies. I'll try to find it. >>
Please post that. Sounds fun!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
<< <i>Thanks for the help. I couldn't track it down anywhere. Really neat read. >>
Getting paid to open and enjoy sportscards...what a racket that would be.
Thanks the link!
2001 SP Authentic #45 Tiger Woods AS AU/900 RC books at $700-$1,000 (Fixed Price Auctions available at $1,000)
LMAO
So what could they have paid for a case? $50 a case multiplied by 7000 = $350,000 of this product. Then they point to the fact that one of his cards approached the low five figures. From reading the article you don't get the feeling he lost out on the deal, but he sure would have if he hung onto it for a period of time.
Anyone else have insight on the investment / ROI involved in this project. Not to mention, the sales job this kid did with his (wealthy) family to put this kind of money down. Must be nice... An excellent lesson in economics & business...

Even at $100 per case and probably another $50k in grading fees and what he paid his buddies to bust them, that would be $750k. The article was written 3 years ago. Three years ago, the Tiger rookie was selling for $10+ raw on eBay for a long time. With 7 Tiger's on average per box, that's almost $500k just in resale of ungraded Tigers. They didn't mention in the article how many Tigers came back from BGS as 9's or 9.5's and were solf for $50-500. Plus they didn't mention how much he sold all the autos and GU'd cards for. My guess would be he made a small profit but there were definitely easier ways to make that small profit with that kind of coin.
I definitely remember $6-8 a box for these. They're everywhere.
