OT: Ran into Chipper Jones today in Orlando

I am in Orlando this week at a big Hunting/Fishing/Military/Law Enforcement Show and see this somewhat familiar face walking towards me as I was talking to a couple military guys I know. Well it doesnt hit me until he is almost past me that its Chipper Jones. As he is walking by me, I say "Chipper Jones, How the hell are you" He actually turned around, came back and shook my hand, and we proceeded to have a two or three minute conversation. I had heard that Chipper wasnt the most personable player out there, but this experience was top notch. Props to Chipper Jones!

I thought his name was Larry.

Did you asked him if he's still ticked off about Smoltz leaving?

I always liked Chipper. One of very few players left who stays with the same team throughout their entire career (so far anyway). He was hitting out of his MIND last year! My fantasy baseball team loved him! I wish he could have stayed healthy the whole season. Oh well... thanks for the story!

Don Mattingly once said that the player he thought was most like him in the current MLB was Chipper Jones. His work ethic and talent are top notch.

On a personal level, its hard to say, but stories like the one shared build the reputation.

  • Chipper is top notch . He was cool when i met him down in Atlanta . He once turned down
more money so the Braves would spend it on talented players .

When did he beat his wife? I seriously have never heard of it.....any linkage?

You're quite lucky though MBMiller! I've met him a few times and he's always seemed like a personable guy. For someone that's probably the most recognizable Brave of the past 10-15 years, I think he handles it well.

edit: Ichiro, how old is that pic? Late 90s/ early 200s?

Wow - cool. I had heard he wasn't very personable either. That's a good story.
  • I have always been a big fan of Chipper as a player, that must have been cool. I had the oppurtunity to meet Jerry Rice and speak to him for about five minutes. He was a really down to earth guy and very friendly.

Congrats on meeting Chipper Jones and thanks for sharing it with us. You will always remember the short conversation you had with Chipper and that was very kind of him to chat with you. I'm around movie stars all the time when I'm working and can tell you that a 2 to 3 minute conversation is incredible and very rare.
