Modern Type Coin Set, Circulation Strikes (1959-Present)

Can SMS coins be used in the Modern Type Coin Set, Circulation Strikes (1959-Present) ????

That is the only way I can come up with the same Finest Possible Set Rating: 68.66 that is listed on the registry page. I would have thought that SMS coins would not be eligible since they were designated as replacments for the proof coins that were not offered in those years. Anyone have a list of finest possible grades for each coin type in that set. I have looked over the Pop report and they only way I can get a 68.66 set rating is to include the 1964 SMS Kennedy in MS69 and the 1965 or 1966 SMS Cents in MS69.

From what I understand Dennis, and I hope I'm right!- you can only add ONE SMS coin to the Registry and that is for the SMS 1998-S Kennedy or one of the two SMS 1994 or 1997 Jeffersons. These coins cannot be used for the regular issues.
Now, if a 1964SMS Kennedy (in 69) CAN be used that would explain some of the rankings of the top one or two sets!

  • Dennis,

You cannot use the SMS coins unless they are the 1994, 97, or 98 variety to the best of my knowledge. I show that the max is 68.59 for the set. You might check with BJ and find out what the discrepancy is.
