  • no clue on that one-- looks like what is known as a "Maverick Token"-- a privately struck piece someone made for their own enjoyment or for some unknown purpose

My guess would be a 16-17th century pickers token, used by farmworkers to account for picked work and then redeemed later.

What is the host coin with the chpmarks/countermarks?

Middle coin looks vaguely Haitian, but don't hold me to that.

Ther third one is a cheap knockoff of an old Hebrew "coin", but probably old itself.

That first one has me baffled.

There are 44 scallops and (apparently) 22 dots on it.

I agree. Perhaps it's a primitive souvenir charm, something not dissimilar to these ones.

If by that you mean the middle coin in the second set, yes I'd agree - it's an imitation ancient Judaean bronze coin from the Roman occupation - the title coin on this Wildwinds page shows what real ones normally look like.

The thin one with the counterpunches... sorry, no idea. Best guess, a French base-silver sou, countermarked for use on one or more Caribbean islands.

Rob & Sapyx both stumped in one thread. I know I'm still new here, but WOW! image

  • To give you further info since it is here in my hand and I can see it , the small one has what looks like a palm tree with the initials LN on either side of the trunk. The reverse side looks like some kind of evergreen tree with poc on one side of the trunk and kaica on the other side of the trunk. It appears to be made of copper. The larger coin is wafer thin and made of copper with two crowns stamped into it like a counterstamp. Have no idea what they are but sure is fun to stump the experts.image
