Question to the canadian experts

Forgot about these... not really much of a canadian collectior, and these have been stashed away in the misc. box.

Can someone tell me which type this is? I figured it was the common variety

This one is pretty cool... no real question, I just didn't want to post a second thread - found this one, too.

I should probably point out that's metal, not gunk, all around the reverse - I know it sorta looks like it in the image.

  • It looks like the early form of the regular narrow 9 from what I can tell.

  • Not an expert by any stretch but I have to agree. That is one fine coin however. The grape vine is almost complete. That series is my favorite and the one that I am trying to complete. Only need about 6 coins and am currently upgrading the ones that I do have.

  • Just noticed that there is a die break through the letter 'C'. This is listed as a minor variety in Hans Zoell's third edition of minor coin varieties. Olmanjon

I've always liked these Canadian cents.

A while ago I noticed one (1859) in my father in laws collection which looked like a dp1 variety.
Not that I know much about them but I was searching through a book.

it had a little tick in the 9.

Others on the forum agreed, so we sent it of to PCGS and it came back PCGS verified as a DP#1 and graded VF35.
  • Nice coin. That is one of the ones that I am missing. I have the N9#2 in xf. My father-in law had told me for years that he had some foreign coins that he would give to me, but he could never find them. When he passed away we found some change in a dish next to his bed and this Canadian large cent was in the dish.

  • Wow... good eye. I didn't even see the die crack when I was photographing it.
