1986-87 Fleer Basketball set value?

I just bought a decent 86-87 Fleer Basketball set and was wondering what the general consensus around here is as to the value of these? The cards are all clean NRMT or better centering is off a little bit but very presentable. I paid $450.00. Was that too much? I used to want this set soo bad and just got back into collecting. Hopefully I didn't do too badly.

    This set included a Jordan?
  • Yes there is a Jordan rookie as well as many other good rookies. I would say that the Jordan is likely ex-mt or probably NRMT while many others are NM-MT or better. The sticker set was not included. My nephew is supposed to pick them up tomorrow and I will post some pics and more details then. I will be sending the Jordan ROOKIE in to PSA for grading. It is REAL image. Jim

    Jim,
I own 7 complete 86 fleer sets and always watch their selling prices on eBay. Almost always, these sets are sold w/out the Jordan rookie. For the set w/o the Jordan rookie, a NM set will sell for between $275-350 (minus the sticker set). If the set you bought included a NM Jordan rookie (which sell for around $400 on eBay), you got a very good deal. However, hopefully the deal wasn't too "good". Was the Jordan graded? If not, hopefully you are positive it is authentic, because I would never buy an ungraded Jordan unless it was from a reputable seller. Let me know if you need help judging the Jordan authenticity.

Ha, during my response, it looks like a couple of my questions were answered. If the Jordan is authentic and in EX-MT to NM, congrats, you got a good deal. Where did you purchase it?

  • Thanks alot I have seen many fake Jordan rookies BITD and am very confident that this one is legit. When I get the cards I will post some scans though just to bee 100% certain. Thanks for the offer of help and I will expect your input when I post the pics. Thanks again! Jim

once again I have to ask. Why are people spending almost $300 for NM sets w/o Jordan (when those cards wouldn't grade higher than 8 at best) while singles graded PSA 9 MINT continue to plummet?
  • It's always nice to pick up 86 Fleer 9's for less than the grading fee....
  • Here are the Jordan pics. Probably in the worst condition of all the cards but very presentable IMHO.

The Jordan looks nice, although the dog-ear on the lower left would have me worried that it might be trimmed.
  • The guy that I got them from had them since he was a kid. Hope it wasn't trimmed?
