A classic. I've probably watched the first 5 "innings" 30 times. Never gets old.

Edit: didn't catch it tonight though.
  • I read somewhere he is going to make the "10th Inning" to cover from 94 to the present. Should be on PBS by, like, 2010 or something. Probably along with the whole rebroadcast of the series. All his stuff is great, IMO.

    Found it... LINK

My favorite story is Billy Crystal one about meeting Ted Williams. I've watced the whole thing all the way through at least 10 times.

I think Monday at 9 eastern the negro league documentary airs.

The 1oth inning is the only time Burns has added to one of his docs.

  • Hey Vito. Read my post above. The link is to a Boston Globe article on the 10th Inning.

Wow, I'm really excited about that. There has been a lot of stuff that would be relevant to the 10th inning over the past 15 years...particularly performance enhancing drugs. I imagine there will be a lot of Red Sox stuff in there which is also exciting considering Burns is a big Sox fan.
  • What with the 94 World Series, the 61 chase, Cal Ripken, Balco, Expansion, you'd think he could do a couple of hours on it!

I had the VHS set haha. I think it's time to join the 21st and pick up the DVD's. Especially because I haven't had a VCR for about 8 years.

I did watch it and it was a very good documentary. There were a few things that I didn't know before I watched it too.

Just wondering if anyone caught Rickey Henderson on the Hot Stove Report yesterday? He's a funny guy and I love hearing his stories. He also comfirmed with Harold Reynolds that he really did pin up his first 1 million dollar check on the wall. Good stuff.

My only beef with the parts that I've watched was that, in his zeal to seemingly overcorrect for black players being excluded from baseball for so long Burns spent too long on side issues and ignored major stories. How do you talk about baseball in the 1960s and not mention Denny McLain winning 31 games? Or how the Tigers win 1968 helped heal a city destroyed by riots?

He was very good friends with the late Buck O'Neil.O'Neil was impossible to dislike. His crusade for the Negro Leaguers came from his friendship with O'Neil.Truth be told it was a great injustice excluding them from playing. Can you imagine the match ups that could have been?Paige vs DiMaggio or Feller vs. Josh Gibson.
  • I've got the complete set and noticed that there is a disc titled "extra innings". I've never watched it. Anyone know if it's worth the time?
  • Great stuff for sure. Is it out on Blu Ray yet?

  • Didn't see it but I caught the end of the post 9/11 show and enjoyed it. I've since checked all of the upcoming programs and set the DVR for several shows.

No argument there. But excluding huge events like McLain winning 31 to include other, lesser events based on skin color is no better.
