Has the grading standards completely changed?

A seller on ebay just sold a run of 55 all American football a few minutes ago. It included a 4 horseman card. Almost every card seemed undergraded. This is very disturbing except for the fact I bought a card from him. This could be the most inconsistant grading set in the hobby. PSA is all over the board on this set. The 4 horseman card was beautiful. Are cards being undergraded on purpose? Take a deep breath and answer the question again. Are cards being undergraded on purpose? Something needs tightening up at PSA. They seem to be losing their touch on vintage cards. JMO.image

N54 had a lengthy thread on just that issue and I believe the seller (a poster here, too) brought up exactly the same points with regard to the cello packs break he submitted.

I just bought a small run of centered PSA 6's that are stunning (from a different seller). In my estimation, most are dead-nuts PSA 7's and a couple have outside shots at PSA 8. Will probably pick up a few more to sample before I consider the crack-out/resub routine.

Grading for 1962 topps has tightened IMHO - down by a full grade. I am sitting on a pretty good pile that I won't submit until normalcy returns.

I agree and this applies to modern stuff too.

My two small subs over the past 8-10 months were graded much tougher than before. I am talking about the
same cards that are graded anywhere 1/2 to 1 grade lower.

I have another sub that I am doing for this month's special and I am preparing for the worst. I am limiting the
    sub to 30-40 cards only.

I am not sure what the future will hold. I just ask for consistency.
