Interesting article....

One thing that Mexico does have going for it is it's massive silver reserves.

If the US would just leaglize drugs and tax them, it would put all of those drug cartels out of work. It would also bring in much needed revenue, and we could refocus all of the current personel that deal specifically with drugs on terrorism or on the ongoing wars. But that is completly OT and I don't want to hijack this thread.... so.....

Anybody know when the 2009 Libertads are going to be released?

Well (IF) the Mexico govt. collapses... That'll just mean ALL my Libertads will go up in value

I did a little digging and all that I could find was last year's release date at PandaAmerica was Feb. 28th.... so I would assume a similar time frame this time as well.

I wish I could buy these by the box but the Mexican mint, like the Canadian mint, will only sell to Market Makers.

Its hard to get information on release dates of anything from Mexico....

I'll be going down to the Mexico City International Numismatic Convention at the end of March, so I will try to get more info while I am there. The Mint sells Libertads over the counter at the show, so if the 2009s are available, they will be selling them there.

BTW, the Mexican Mint has released the new "Frida Kilos" at the end of last year.
The Aztec Calendar and Libertad Kilos are tough to find now.

Release date was yesterday from the Mint... PandaAmerica and the other US distributers that I've talked to are looking at taking deliveries in about 2 weeks.

I was thinking about getting a box... I can get them for about $4.5 over spot if I purchase 500 or more, but I'm still selling the Britannias that I ordered a box of.
