China dragon dollar 1906???

I found this coin in my Grandfathers old collection, he has passed so I don't know where he got it, or any info on it.

I located the same coin on ebay, but it didn't include much information.
It is being sold "buy it now" for $1,500 which of course sparked a bit more of my interest!
Just wondering if anyone could help me out, any info would be appreciated.

  • Fantasy piece would be my guess...

This is not a fantasy and I think it is 1911, not 1906. Although it looks real to me, I don't think you're going to get 1500 bucks for it. Someone must have some up-to-date prices around here. Do you have a larger image of the other side?

If you search ebay in the China section using "1911 dollar" you will find some more reasonably priced pieces but I think even these are a tad expensive.
  • Looks to be in a holder or slab, is there info on the holder?

I think that's the ebay image.

    Oh, so it is!imageimage
  • Yes, the pictures I posted are of the coin I found on ebay....
On the ebay listing, the poster has 3 different dates, 1906 in the auction heading, 1911 on the coin holder package and 1916 is listed in the description.
I emailed the lister to see if he had any information on the coin, but have not heard back from him.
The coin I have looks to be in a little better condition, but I currently don't have it packaged.
I will head to the library today to see if I can find any books, I have quite a few foreign coins that I am interested in learning about.
    Thank you
  • This coin?

Here's a few on CoinArchives to see if you can make a positive match. #11 or 15 maybe?

Do NOT clean the coin in any way. This would destroy its value. Then, if you had a picture of the actual coin that you own, the forum members would be able to help a lot more.
  • Yes, that is the ebay listing I had found
  • It would be number 15...
I will try to get actual pictures tonight

I would send it to PCGS or NGC to have it authenticated... and graded

Unless it is truly high grade, I don't know that it would be worth it. At any rate, we would love to see some pics to advise you further.
