CONGRATS TO JIM RICE & RICKY HENDERSON!

It's FINAL! --- the newest members of the Baseball Hall of Fame are JIM RICE & RICKY HENDERSON!!! IMHO, it is nice to see Jim Rice finally get in. I always thought of him as a consistent ballplayer, but not one who commanded all the media attention. Then, on the other hand, Ricky Henderson did all of that and more. He was destined for the Hall and no doubt on his first time around! How does everyone feel about the picks this year? Who did you think should have made it?

NEW YORK - Rickey Henderson sped his way into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot Monday, and Jim Rice made it in on his 15th and final try. Henderson, baseball's career leader in runs scored and stolen bases, received 94.8 percent of the vote from the Baseball Writers' Association of America, well above the 75 percent needed.
Rice, among baseball's most feared hitters in the late 1970s and early 1980s, got 76.4 percent of the vote after falling just shy with 72.2 percent last year. Henderson became the 44th player elected in his first year of eligibility.
Rice was only the third elected by the BBWAA in his final year, joining Red Ruffing (1967) and Ralph Kiner (1975). The pair will be inducted into the Hall during ceremonies on July 26 in Cooperstown, N.Y.
They will be joined by former Yankees and Indians second baseman Joe Gordon, elected posthumously last month by the Veterans Committee.

Also worth noting was the first runner up this year, Andre Dawson, who received 67% approval, falling 44 votes short of the required 75%. Tommy John, Bert Blyleven, Lee Smith, and Tim Raines also came up short. Mark McGwire actually received fewer votes in his third year of eligibility than he did last year, getting only 118 votes (21.9% approval) compared to 128 last year.

Who in the hell did not vote for Henderson. This crap about nobody getting 100% of the vote is regotdangdiculous. I'm not saying it has to be Henderson who gets 100%, but who in the world didn't vote for him?

It is also about time Rice got in. People forget what a threat he was. These are two of my all-time favorite players.
Collector of 1976 Topps baseball for some stupid reason.
Collector of Pittsburgh Pirates cards for a slightly less stupid reason.

  • Rickey voted for Rickey. I will always remember how Rickey referred to himself in the third person.
