Looks like Dungy is stepping down.

Good or bad for the Colts?

I think it's bad. They still had chances to win with some tweaking of their D-Line. Brackett had a broken leg and a starting DB was out as well. I don't think scuttling the whole thing and starting over will happen but a new coach may set them back 1 to 2 years if it isn't the right fit. They have the guy already picked out I have heard.

Good one, but not if you are a Colts fan.
  • Sad day if true. Tony is not only one of the great coaches, but one of the great people in the NFL. He means so much more to Indy than being their coach.

wow, maybe Dungy isn't all that?

    Sincerely,

Regardless of what some people like Kevin say, Dungy has had a fine career. I do believe many of his teams underachieved, but the coaches aren't the ones playing the game.

To say that he wasn't a great coach is ridiculous.

I would rank him as one of the best to ever coach! I still believe the Colts will be fine. Just really feel bad to have watched him coach for so many years, and end this season without a super bowl ring

He basically designed and implemented the tampa 2 defense that is used by about 95% of the league.

He did win one, though, so it's not like he never won a SB.

    An outstanding coach indeed,

unlike others who might suffer Dick Vermil inspired "burnout', I really doubt he will return as an NFL head coach.

whoa, I didn't say he wasn't great, but when someone tells me that Gruden won a ring with Dungys players, I have to ask myself...why couldn't Dungy
win a ring with his players? Anwser..he couldn't. Bucs should of played in the super bowl in 99..Dungy's players held the greatest show on turf to
9 offensive points, but couldn't score more than that...and when Bert Emmanual came up with a catch that was ruled incomplete, Dungy didn't have the
brains to challenge. That cost the bucs that game and what I believe would of been a championship.

Forward to Indy..his offense...Manning, Edge, Harrison and Wayne in their primes and a great defense anchored by Freeny and he comes up with what
one ring?? Indy had three times the players New England did but its Belicheck that has the hardware and not Dungy.

If you are ok with 11-5 and one and done, then yes Dungy was good...but look at the numbers, he has one ring and so does Gruden. Does Indy make the playoffs
this year if they had Brad Johnson, Keenan McCardell and Joe J?

    doubt it.

Dungy has been a great coach. He's been a better person and man for the city of Indianapolis. This state is in love with their team now and he had a lot to do with it.

But I was wondering today if the Colts and Dungy were a little bit of a disappointment. 139-69 career record is indeed impressive, so is making the playoffs in all 7 seasons under Dungy. So is 12 win seasons the last five, something no other team has done if I'm not mistaken.

But all those wins have translated to very little playoff success. They've only MADE one Super Bowl, and fortunately for us Colts fans they won. But in 4 of the 7 playoff years, they never won a game, and Dungy's career post season record is under .500. And as a fan, it's like the same mistake kept being made. Sit your starters the final, meaningless regular season game. Come out flat in the playoffs and lose in the first round. FOUR TIMES!! It was bad enough to lose to an 8-8 team without Tomlinson who we beat already this year, but losing last year at home to the same team without Tomlinson or Rivers was disgusting. So was being the #1 seed and losing the first game at home to Pittsburgh 3 years ago. Let's face it, if New England doesn't blow a huge second half lead to the Colts the year they won the whole thing in the AFC Championship game, it would be a major disappointment.

Like was said earlier in the thread, Dungy never played in any of those games. A coach can only do so much. But I started to wonder if he and the Colts were great, just good, or in fact underachievers.

In any event, we'll miss him. Great man.

Great post Shawn..fans have a much more better perspective than outsiders.

  • As already mentioned, Tony is a fantastic person and is so much more than Indy's head coach. For those of you not aware, Tony is heavily involved with www.allprodad.com

Doesn't he do this every year? Then he changes his mind and coaches for another year? image

    Stay tuned!

I would argue that he rarely had the top O or top D .
