Cool find at a used book store

After going to a mall Lakewood,CA, I was going to stop at the Arby's nearby, when I saw there was a Dollar store that opened up next door. I thought it was a Dollar Tree store but it was a used book store that sold used books, magazines and VHS movies. I was hoping to find any old Sports Illustrated covers that I don't have (didn't have any). As looking for any old sports books, I notice this book that was misplaced in plain sight:

I just opened the cover, and to my surprise:

It was autographed. And I paid a grand total of $1.08 (including tax). I plan to authenticate it at PSA/DNA next Saturday at Franks N' Son, even if it isn't real, It's still a bargain for the book itself is hardcover and plan to read it. Unfortunately, the Gary Carter, Sugar Ray Leonard and Bo Jackson books they had weren't autographed. All the books were $1.

I've picked up several autographed first edition novels at thrift shops, can't beat that. Nice find!

Looks Legit---A couple of patterns for Dick is--when he signs his first name it looks like "BILL"....and most of his sigs when he signs his last name continues the "e" back to the "t" and then back over the "e" again. Hope this helps.

Congrats on the find. Is PSA at Frank & Sons? I thought only Beckett was there. However, I haven't been for a few months.
  • I wish i could find more great deals outside of ebay

Nice pickup, I would be shocked if that was not a real signature.

Just curious... why bother authenticating it? It's 99% for sure real and it's a very cool item. It's a great story since you got it for a buck. However, it can't be worth much even if it was "authentic" could it? Ten or twenty bucks? Vitale seems like the kind of guy that would sign a lot of autographs and not be very popular to buy. Like I said, it's a cool item but I don't see the value in authentication!?

I'm kind of with Larry; Vitale's signature isn't particularly valuable nor desireable to be begin with (HOF or not). I'd enjoy it for what you have now (save the authenication fee for something else)
