Is the bye week really an advantage?

Teams have 6 days OR 14 days to rest (practice), and get healthy before playoff games. Perhaps 14 days is too long, and they get rusty. Both bye week teams lost yesterday.

    Not a fan of the bye week at all. A team wraps things up, rests players in the finale and then has to wait an extra week. Meanwhile they have to go up against a team that likely had to play hard through the end of the season to make the playoffs. Even if said team didn't have to make a push at the end of the regular season they did have real game situations the previous week.

    I think if you go into the bye week hot you'll be fine. If you go into the bye cold the team has a tendency to come out flat in the playoffs.

    Ben needed the bye week to recover from his hit in game #16. he would have sat if Pitt didn't have a bye week. Ravens have not had a week off since week #2...they are going very strong

    I'm forgetting a little bit exactly when they stated the mid season bye week - but perhaps that negates a bit the importance of the end of season bye week. I still think the end of season bye week is helpful, but perhaps coaches with bye weeks need to somehow keep their players a little better focused.

    You make up a good point and there's always exceptions to the rule.

    In regards to the Titans I have to admit that I was surprised at the regulars that got rest in their final game against Indy. Sure some guys were hurt and needed rest, but if guys miss the majority of that game in addition to the bye week it has to be tough getting back to game speed after nearly a month of regular game action.

    At this rate, you may start seeing first place teams lose on purpose next season to get the wildcard...

    and for teams like the titans who clinched so early, their players may not have played a meaningful snap in over a month! can't be good.

    They just discussed it on Fox - up until two years ago the past 8 years, bye week teams won at an 80% clip. Bye week teams the last 2 years have lost 4 out of 7 Fox said.
