WOW --- I just sold a Pujols card to psa-set-guy on eBay (what a great deal, for him)

Orangecountysportsinvestments (PSA-SET-GUY) just bought my 2001 Fleer Legacy Albert Pujols PSA 8 for $36. The card is graded "8" but it really should have been a "9" . . . no, really. So, I am guessing that this card can be resumitted for a likely upgrade to "9" and then relisted for a $100 profit. This is while I continue to buy 1986 Topps commons for $20 a pop. What a business! What a country! AND I EVEN OFFERED FREE USPS PRIORITY MAIL SHIPPING! And I get to keep paying $4 a card for myself.

Hopefully I won't have more great deals for Platinum Power Sellers!!!

Johnny will "find" a way for that card to make it to a psa 9 holder. image

Can you write that off as charitable contributions.... I wonder?

If it can be resubmitted for an upgrade to a 9, why didn't you do that?

..and I don't understand getting angry at the high bidder of your card, regardless of who it was. You are probably right though, if it deserves a 9, it WILL get a 9.

Just curious as to what "find" may mean here?

  • I just wanted to be clear that I am not upset with psa-set-guy buying the Pujols card at (what I considered to be) a good price. I used the auction format and just let the market decide. I just found it ironic that I would actually sell a card, any card, to a seller that I've probably bought close to 100 cards in the past year. I did not bother to send it back myself to PSA because I already have 4 or 5 of that card, including two graded 10.

As for this auction, I wish that I could warn everybody that this Mantle might not be authentic. This seller looks suspiciously like "dunkindoughnuts2008" or "Jose Hernandez" from San Ysidro.
  • msohn, thanks for the heads up on the 52 Mantle, i am in the market for one.....

ps....SHANE HARDY ...what is up with your Mantle?

It was a joke, sorry if it came off the wrong way. I was at the national with Johnathan/ crew, and they are VERY good at finding cards that are bumpable. Very cool to watch them in action. Its what they do for a living after all.

I know the whole honeycomb gang at OCSI and I hold them in the highest regard. I probably buy a hundred cards a month from them and I would never think twice about any card they sell

I don't get it. If you thought it was "really a 9" why didn't you really send it back to PSA yourself!? I am confused.
  • Fandango,

If you are interested, there is a PSA 7 Mantle on eBay right now for sale by seller ID cardguy444. I am sure that you have seen this, but if I can help to give you any confidence in buying from this seller, I bought an Aaron rookie from him earlier this year and I had a flawless transaction with him. I also talked to him on the phone several and he is a nice guy. The Aaron card was from a previous auction by Memory Lane. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the clarification. I have purchased a few times from them before and I wasn't sure about your comments. Thanks again.

Just wanted to say you have some great collections. I believe I was bidding against you on an E.Smith not too long ago.

    msohn,
Even though it might cost a few bucks in the end, I think an 86 Topps set in PSA 10 might be the most challenging basic set in any sport from the late 80s-early 90s era. I've opened cases of this stuff and PSA 10s come about 1-3 per box. This set's so amazingly tough people have no idea.

Also, you might want to start charging for shipping. At least 50% of card buyers on ebay don't factor in shipping costs when bidding on items. The good-faith gesture of free shipping goes unnoticed by many.

    Good luck in future sales.

Long story, short - PSA wouldn't holder it (after they said they would). The guy I bought if from stood behind it and traded me some things for it, so I no longer have it.

  • SHANE...NO WAY

i cant believe they didnt holder it....even as authentic-altered?????? makes no sense...it was such a sharp card too.....

I asked this before about this 52 Mantle. How did he get his seller ID in the card in the pictures?
