Check out the ballot from ESPN's 11 Baseball Hall of Fame Voters:
ESPN Ballot
All of them vote for Rickey Henderson
Then, one of them (Michael Knisley) votes for only one other player (Lee Smith). You can not convince me that Lee Smith is the most qualified candidate not named Rickey.
Then, Pedro Gomez (he of the incessant Barry Bonds coverage a couple years ago), votes for Jay Bell!!!!!!!!!!!! (WHAT????????????????)
This all just proves how truly hopeless Baseball's Hall of Fame voting process is. Voters like this send in their ballots, raising the number of votes each player needs to be elected. Then, they don't vote for the players, making it even harder for the deserving players to be elected

serious? for Hall of fame?
over DOn Mattingly?
Gomez should lose his voting priviledge!
It'd also be cool to see the writers give a reason for NOT voting for the guy who gets elected. For instance, in 1992, Tom Seaver got 425 out of 430 votes. Did those other 5 guys think Seaver wasn't worthy?
WTB: 2001 Leaf Rookies & Stars Longevity: Ryan Jensen #/25
This isn't breaking news, the writers are typically good at putting sentences together, and typically bad at judging baseball. There is no excuse for them to be taking a shallow look at the candidates. They should be digging much deeper for greater accuracy in their judgements.
I can understand fans not digging deeper, but this is part of a writers job. They simply don't have the knowledge.
The guys at ESPN may not even be good at putting sentences togehter either...those guys are good at creating sensationalist stories and story lines. If you want their view on how to sell a story or a program, they are your guys. If you want a view on who was better at baseball, then you better look elsewhere.
