Merc Guys - Where are all the 1939-S coins?

I was admiring some of the other Mercury sets and noticed I am not the only person chasing a 1939-S. Does anyone have the population count on these? I don't believe it is a scarce coin, but I have been unable to find an MS66 or MS67 to even bid on. If I do find a Full Bands coin, I share that information. Thoughts?

NON FB 162 in 66 16 in 67 and none higher

I have been chasing this coin for a while also and have saw a few 66FB but I was out bid or the coins were priced to high for my taste.

"TOUGH....TOUGH Mercury Dime" plus it looks like atleast 3 of us are looking for the Same grade. I know of a 65FB that is available and Heritage has a 66FB on thier site.
The above two mentioned are just a little spendy for My taste right at the moment. MS66 would please my taste.
Have been looking for this one on Ebay for 3 or 4 months also. Maybe I just keep missing them.

Here's a Dumb Question. Those 9S dimes(19S...29S...39S) are tough to find. Why??
        2. DeepCoin, hi... I have head stories from dealers & read somewhere that a certain collector is hoarding the 39-S mercs & at it for a long time. The collector was named but I don't remember who & has amassed huge quantities, seems like hundreds of thousands if memory is right. And, still buying. Why just hoarding that date I don't remember but this story is around so someone else may have the specifics.

Good luck with your collection, Jimmy
        3. I think this hoard idea is possibly right because these coins really arent that rare but you hardly ever see them and when you do the pricing is a bit high.
While we are on the subject of hoards, whats up with this sudden storm of 36 S merc's to hit the market ? They seem to be every where.
        4. There is a 39s on ebay that just came on line.Raw. But I too had a very difficult time finding a real nice 39s and 29s....tough to find.
