Do you have to buy on Ebay to get Paypal BUYER PROTECTION?

I am considering buying a rather costly item from an Ebay seller. We have negotiated a price, but the kicker is that he would like to do it off of Ebay to save on fees. Do I have protection from Paypal on a transaction like this? Thanks, guys.

You would be protected from not received but not sure about not as described. If you go off ebay it's hard to prove advertised condition.

You're protected if you use a credit card, regardless of what PP's policies are.

There is no "Buyer Protection Program" using PP outside of EBAY.

Buyer's must use the "PP Buyer Complaint Policy" to claim an INR.
Proof of delivery is DC/SC, online-viewable.

The policy will award the buyer in a successful INR-claim, but does
not guarantee payment if the seller has NO money.

There are NO awards of SNAD under the BCP.

A seller with a legitimate SNAD claim can go to their creidt-card
    company with the problem.

    .............

This makes PayPal safe for sellers to accept AWAY from EBAY.

    Shane,

Try offering to pay half the fees if he sells the item via eBay... if he says no, that's a good reason to say no deal.

I'm kinda with ThunderDan. I've had to go through my credit card when Paypal did not refund for my getting ripped off. Credit card company protected me, Paypal gave me the boot. I Emailed/called and they reinstated me. It was worth the 5-7 ban, to get the $300 plus back to me.

    "...Credit card company protected me,..."

    //////////////////////////////////////////

That's the way it should. The way it is in the real-world; not
the fraud-world that EBAY/PayPal have constructed.

The chances of a sophisticated seller losing a bad-faith/fraudulent
SNAD-claim though a credit-card company - where the seller is the
merchant of record - are pretty close to ZERO.

The chances of ANY seller losing a FRAUDULENT SNAD-claim
filed at PP are pretty close to 100%.

That imbalance has made it unsafe for EBAY-sellers to accept payment
    for high-val items via PP.

OFF of EBAY, PayPal is perfectly safe for both buyer/seller, if the buyer
    uses a credit card.

  • Storm,
I am sure there is abundant info on how to do this, but just for clarifiaction. I use PayPal day in day out now per Fee-Bay. It just so happens I need to pay for a $900.00 deal today/tomorrow of an Off E-bay purchase. How do you pay with PayPal with a credit card and not with your PayPal balance?
All I ever see are the basic Send Money tabs ect., when I choose this do I pick Credit Card (I am Verified), ect. May seem like a stupid question, but first time and want to make sure I get thjsi right.
    Thanks

  • Fund the purchase with a credit card and you have little or no risk.

To pay an OFF-EBAY PP-invoice, simply move your PP-cash to your bank account.

Select credit-card as the payment option. Hit "send payment."

The same protection offered by CCs is also available with most bank-issued
debit cards that bear the MC logo. Check your UA for details.
