    Yes.

But I don't think it is a rookie year item.

i think it was issued in the fall of 85

regardless of what the copyright says.

Steve, it may have been made in oct/nov/dec 1984 when many regional sets are produced....

Scott, It could have been made in 84 but was released in 85 and that is what they go by.

Your question was does PSA grade them, I said yes but they designate them as a 1985 issue.

Now I normally would not just take that as the final word but I was in the business during that time
and remember selling them well after mattingly rookie cards became hot.

Fall of 1985 is when my candy wholesaler had them. perhaps some were issued earlier.

I also remember seeing them well into 1986.

In any event PSA does grade them, they designated them as a 1985 issue.

The pin you have is part of the mattingly master set.

I've got at least one in my Mattingly collection. I don't seem to remember them being all that rare.
  • thanks STeve, i see it now in master set

where are the grading fees for pins?
  • I have the Ozzie Smith and it is labeled 1985.

I tried to add it to the master set a year or so ago and it was not allowed... maybe I should try again if the Mattingly was allowed in.

Edited to clarify: labeled 1985 by PSA
    White Whales:
1996 Select Certified Mirror Gold Ozzie Smith
2006 Bowman Chrome Orange Refractor Chris Carpenter

    PSA slabs pins?
Successful dealings with Wcsportscards94558, EagleEyeKid, SamsGirl214, Volver, DwayneDrain, Oaksey25, Griffins, Cardfan07, Etc.
  • they use the coin holders...im just wondering if it can go with a regular submission or it needs its own form....
  • I remember having a slew of those back in he 80's. I lke them but as I liquidated a bunch f non-regular card stuff, it got sold.

    thanks for the flash-back

Scott it would need its own form and shipping/insurance payment.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • thanks steve...

in other words, an expensive 1 card submission......

Oh I dunno is 20.00 expensive? I assume it could be done for that amount.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • It also takes quite a while to get it back -- I submitted a Dale Murphy Fun Foods button as part of a larger order. It took one week for them to process the order submission form (I goofed and put it all on the same list, they had to correct it) and then the button also arrived about two weeks after the larger group order which was sent using the bulk service level.
  • They also grade the cardboard proofs of these buttons. There is one listed in the Reggie Jackson set.
