Any downhill skiers on the board?

I recently read an article that Body Miller was disqualified from a downhill ski race in Europe. The cause of his disqualification was a "random" check by ski officials that found the sole of his ski boot was one-one hundreth of an inch too thick.

How can such a miniscule sole addition give Miller such an implied advantage that he would be disqualified?

Or, is this just an effort to trash Miller, who has had a somewhat sketchy skiing history?

Watched it on TV, that's about as close as I've gotten. Although I don't think it's considered downhill ski, I still think the clip from the old Wide World of Sports was one of the most awesome ever when that skier wiped out.

Miller's boots were tested in a random routine check by FIS officials that usually takes place between runs. FIS rules limit the height of ski boots to 34.3 millimeters (1.35 inches) because knee injuries often occur when boot soles are higher. Miller's boots were 34.5 mm (1.36 inches). Link
