I would have thought the people here would be kicking Ohio State at unsustainable levels for loosing...

could be be the spot was sooooooooooooooo bad that no one dares comment on the game?

Always classy to blame the refs.

I can't comment. I forgot the game was on and missed it.

Rarely have I ever been critical of refs and it in most circumstances it is not fair to even consider blaming refs. In a game that was comparable to a Chess match, a spot like that with 30 seconds left really is something that could not contemplated earlier in the game. What do you say when the other 59 1/2 minutes were already played? What do you do? Develop a game plan that accounts for the first down that wasn't there?

Classy people can complain about refs under circumstances such as this...

Let us not forget about the drive-changing "roughing the quarterback" call. The refs said it was helmet-to-helmet, when his helmet CLEARLY hit the SIDE of his shoulder pad! FIXED!! FIXED!! FIXED!! ...and if anyone says otherwise, they know where they can stick their "hook'em horns"

The roughing the passer call was hard for the ref to see. Ohio state had their chances. That one call didnt lose the game for them. Questionable calls happen. Saying the game was fixed because of one questionable roughing the passer call is laughable at best, insane at worst.

I agree that Ohio State had its chance and in the last 30 seconds it seems their chance was taken away with a spot that was clearly exaggerated. Ohio State should have taken over on downs and run the clock out...

I seriously doubt that anyone with a straight face can say the spot was reasonable.

I thought the spot was fine. It looked like he got to the 40 yard line IMO. Yes, I typed that with a straight face. I saw other marginal calls that I thought could be questionable (both ways), but I thought it was a good spot (of the ball) on the final drive.

Let's say it was a bad spot. Guess what... OSU LOST. Doesn't matter. They lost the game. Whining about it is just silly. Just like the Indy fans on Saturday. Take your loss like an adult and move on. I am sure Ohio State will be up in the top 10 again next year and maybe they will get the call in their favor then. It goes both ways. If you honestly balance all the times your team gets the calls and all the times your team doesn't get the calls it balances. Maybe not in one game but in all games throughout life it balances out. Most people just can't be honest with themselves and think their team always gets screwed. Might as well learn to live with it rather than whine and look like a poor sport.

If you think what I have wrote makes me a bad sport, that is fine and it is uour right to think that. The game is over and Ohio State lost which I completely understand and nothing will change that. Writing about my thoughts about what I saw is well within reason... I have not read the sports sections of some of the major papers, but sportswriters often mention calls that amount to gifts that change the game. It does not make them a poor sport or a poor sportswriter.

    OSU fan for life here.

    Watched the entire game.

The helmet to helmet to call was BS but what are you going to do? Nothing.

OSU played HORRIBLY during the 3rd quarter. Their defense was an embarrassment. I thought things were going to get Really ugly and really fast but they battled back and much to my (and probably millions of others) surprise took the lead.

Now for the "spot" or play in question. I saw the first ref mark the ball what appeared to be clearly behind the marker. When they came out to measure I told my wife that it had been moved and that they didn't even need to measure it.

I watched all of the replays that you guys did and will state that it certainly appeared that the receiver had that ball clearly out past the 1st down marker.

OSU has no one to blame for Texas' final drive except their inability to stop McCoy's arm and their horrific defense on the winning play. There were a lot of what ifs and such but in the end none of it matters. We lost and you have to give Texas credit for marching it down the field. I also feel you have to give OSU credit for playing one hell of a game (for 3 quarters) and coming back (not something that they are used to doing) and taking the lead. They have nothing to be ashamed of in my opinion.

It reminded me of the game in Columbus a few years ago......another one that got away. That was another great game.

A few things are pretty clear....

Tressel finally opened up his playbook a little which was nice.
Pryor needs to learn how to pass.
Pryor needs to look down the field and stay in bounds when running the ball.
Beanie needs to return for his senior season. I think he has a LOT to prove.
McCoy and Brown are smoking crack if they honestly think they should be #1.

I was also pleased that Boeckman got to take part in the game. I think he's got a chance at being drafted by someone. He's a decent passer that just needs to learn to move around a bit when necessary.

Again, it was a good game. I went to bed and didn't feel horrible about the loss like I did when USC beat the crap out of them.

I predict that Boeckman will start an NFL game one day. He has the size, the arm strength, and a decent head for the game.

McCoy is a freak. If Texas didn't have him they would be just another 12th-20th ranked team.
I don't feel too bad about the loss either; even though I wish they could have two of those possessions from the third quarter back.
Terrible play calling on the two 3 and outs.

  • OSU fans have the galls to talk about referee bad calls?

If it wasn't for a bad referee call, OSU would not have won a championship in 2002 - get over it!

One call either way does not make a game - plays do

lol, I knew that pass interference call in 2002 would be brought up here... classic!!

It still brings a smile to my face when I think back to when Willis McGahee left his knee cap on the field that day. Good times! image

There is no question you can write whatever you want... as can I. For me, when my team loses I prefer to not whine about the refs. Apparently we like to approach this issue differently. I am not saying you are "wrong." I am just saying that, in my opinion, it sounds very juvenile and shows poor sportsmanship to whine and complain. Your analogy to sportswriters is silly as that is their job... but even then I think a good sportswriter can look at a play objectively and not go overboard on it (i.e. homer v. non-homer writer).

My thoughts are my thoughts... I think Ohio State deserved to win. I don't think my comments as expressed here makes me a poor sport.

Lets end the thread here and now.
