stoopid question about state quarters

Once the quarter is release, is it minted that year and every year after that? How many of each quarter, each year is minted?

  • They are each only minted for a short period of time, and that is it, 2 1/2 months each quarter or something like that IIRC.

And the quantity depends on the issue. In 2000 all of the issues were over a billion and the first couple in 2001 (NY & NC) were over a billion. After that mintage's tapered off settling in the 400-500K range on average. As far as rarity for the issues, it is my understanding that there are huge amounts of most issues in storage having never been put into circulation.

Here is a link with the mintages

It's tough to know what's in storage. The mint and FED normally
rotate their coins so that there are no older coins but with the states
coins the demand has been less stable and they bring the newest
ones out first in many cases.

They project annual demand and try to divide it up evenly among
the issues for that year. This didn't work well when the demand
    soared in 2000.
