<< <i>Good signing. Very good deal for the Rays. >>

agreed, was having a discussion with a Rays fan on the same topic. Gives TB a better lineup than they had last year.

Im wondering if being a DH will improve or hinder his performance... I wish Pat the Bat all the success in the world. Awesome that he was able to go out a winner in Philly.

If it does hurt his performance, we could just stick him out in RF to see if that would help. RF will be split between Gross and Joyce, and possibly Rocco, so it's not like we'd have to sacrifice too much to put him out there.

He'll be tied for the second highest salary on the squad at $ 8 million next year. Crawford makes $8.25 mil and Pena makes $8 mil as well. Third place goes to Kaz at $6 million and it drops of pretty dang quickly after that.

Pat the Bat had a great career with the Phils, I thought he under performed in the playoffs, but he will be a nice addition to the Rays youth movement.

  • nice job Rays! young team signing a veteran bat to fill a hole in their lineup. Should make things very very interesting in the East.

Im still quite surprised that the Sox have done nothing of mention.

The Sox picked up Brad Penny.

I think thats a great signing by the Rays. Longoria, Pena, Upton, Burrell will all provide some great protection for each other. LETHAL.

I wish Pat the best of luck, except of course when he's playing against the Phillies. He's still a productive player - I just have a feeling that he's going to begin tailing off somewhat - there's not going to be some sort of marked improvement in his stats, and there's a chance, a decent chance that he could windup being considered sort of a bust for the Rays. I think the Phillies made a good move with his replacement and letting him go, especially considering the monetary factors involved.

Phillies continue to make smart moves, unlike the Mets who continue to make expensive moves that aren't winning championships or even reaching the playoffs - too bad, so sad.

Burrell, who is one of my favorite all time Phils, should fire his agent.

The Phillies offered him 2/22 mil, which he declined.

    I wish him the best.

I thought the Phils were the ones that didn't want him? Whatever the case is, maybe homeboy wanted a change.

Good affordable pickup for the Rays

BARELY affordable though. Friedman said that this basically restricts any other moves. Oh well, I'm happy. image

barely>? thats chump change, and they arent paying any exorbinant contracts. how about they get some butts in the seats and Pay some $$$ will the fan base come out this year?

Are you aware of the Tampa Bay Rays? I think this move puts their payroll over $55 million for the first time EVER in club history.

As for butts in seats, I'm sure that season ticket sales have practically doubled since last year. However, Florida is one of the states that has been hit hardest by the recession. We shall see though. I'll still go to my 10-15ish games a year and that number will only increase once I start college over in Tampa, so I've got their back image

Ive seen Burrell play a couple of times. The one thing I have to say about him is that when he hits the ball, the sound off his bat is like none other I have ever heard. I used to really enjoy watching him play when the Phillies went to Montreal.
