Yikes! I just shipped 13 slabbed cards to Swartz1. Sent them Saturday, they arrived this morning. I certainly hope UPS didn't deliver them like that!!! LOL
I have never had any problems with my regular UPS driver.
Same guy has been delivering items to me since around 1990 and back when I purchased my electric guitar I wasn't home at the time so he carefully placed it in my other vehicle that I had at that time. Next time he delivered he asked about the guitar and if everything was ok with it.
Now DHL on the other hand. Drove up in an unmarked car and never knocked but left a near $200 camera on the wet doorstep. Also just received 4GB memory for my computer that went through DHL Smart Mail in a big 11 1/2" X 15" bubble mailer (packs that the memory was in are 4 3/4" X 6 3/4" X 2 packs with a thickness of an inch) that looked like it had seen some rough handling. Not sure why it wasn't put in a box for mailing as these memory sticks aren't something you want being bent and twisted but they got here safely and work (need to do a Memtest on them overnight) so that is a good thing.
FedEx has been known to drop items off without knocking and leave them in plain site on our doorstep.
Postal service is pretty good in our area. Only had one package get mangled in the almost 6 years since living here and not sure where that happened. Have had to complain about the delivery ladies on occasion as they like to leave the sorry we missed you cards in the box even though I've been home at the time of delivery and they never bothered to come into the driveway. Latest occurrence of this was this past Saturday. Our post office closes at 12 on Saturdays but we were able to get the item after 3:00PM as one of the young ladies that works there knew my wife from our dealings there (lotsa money orders when I was buying off of eBay) so she was very helpful. Also said the girl that pulled this stunt again has had several complaints about doing this to others.
But yeah, no complaints so far about UPS. Maybe I've just been lucky.
I haven't used UPS for a couple years now, I think they did that to every item I ever shipped with them. I agree with artlost, but they are a bad joke as far as jokes go.
The USPS and Canada Post have never broken any of my items, they are the only ones I trust. And they are the only ones to deal with when it comes to clearing customs easily.
Our business packages are usually delivered UPS, which I really have no choice on. Our distibutor tried FedEX a few years back without notice to anyone. We are one day from Memphis if going through UPS.
So anyway, the day of the infamous order, our UPS deliveries were made and I noticed that one of the distributors items were not in it. I called and they told me they were trying out FedEX and they would be delivered at a different time. (Our usual delivery time is 9-10am). About FOUR in the afternoon, FedEx pulls up, delivers a package next door. As the driver is about to pull off, I politely ask if there was any delivery on the truck for our business. She<<<< NOTICE..SHE!!!>>>>> said there was, but that the were not required to deliver the items until the third day. I asked her if she could get mine, since I was needing it to fulfill an order the next day. She said she didnt have time and drove off. I called my distributor and immediately told them if they EVER sent a package FedEx again, it would be the last one I ever buy from them.

There's good and bad with UPS, FedEx, and USPS. Some people take pride in their work, some are in a hurry to get done.
A couple weeks ago on SATURDAY a lady in my office left a notice for an express package. The notice said they could pick it up on MONDAY since the office would be closed by the time she got back with the parcel. Lucky for the lady that she caught me on the phone at work after we were closed. She hurried right in and picked up her 50 yard line tickets for the steelers cowboys game on SUNDAY.
I've had packages lost or crushed by all 3, nobody has a patent or a monopoly on stupid and careless.
UPS drivers - as a general class - are simply too rough with the items they deliver.
FEDEX is a little better, but they often throw stuff, too.
The problems I have with USPS NEVER involve their workers failing to handle my stuff with care. They are ALWAYS VERY careful with my parcels; nothing ever arrives broken.
My problems with USPS are that MANY clerks do not know the RULES, and almost ALL relief-carriers are totally clueless about their routes. The carriers who have been on the job for a long time, virtually never make a mistake with my deliveries; I cannot even recall the last time an error happened. AND, they NEVER break my stuff by THROWING it.
(The next time my home mail-carrier goes on vacation, I am seriously considering asking the PO to hold my mail at the unit. When my regular guy comes back, I will have him bring it to me. Having neighbors knock on my door to bring my mail that was mistakenly put in their boxes is NOT a pleasant thing.)
ALL things considered, USPS is really the ONLY "largely trustworthy" delivery agent for the kind of stuff that I buy and sell.
...........
As noted above, UPS adds an outrageous fee on Canadian stuff that comes out of Customs. Not a good thing for EBAY-sellers' feedback.

Some subs are better and more conscientious than their regulars and make less mistakes All regulars were subs and made regular thru seniority, not merit.
You can ask your carrier to bring you a small stack of yellow hold cards, and have him let you know when he's going on vacation. There's a box to be checked for "deliver accumulated mail to me". But if the sub is no good, he mixes your mail with the guy on the next shelf in the hold case. You get some of their mail, they get some of yours.
That reminds me of the time the UPS guy delivered a package to my brother's house. My brother had just bought a brand new Toyota Landcruiser. Those vehicles are not cheap.
Anyway the guy walked up the driveway, slammed the package on my brothers hood and slid it half way up the truck.
Alot of those drivers really need to slow down a bit. Besides being the most expensive way to ship things, their service leaves alot to be desired.

I bought $30 worth of comics from the US and was charged 33.90 in fees from customs and UPS and of the 33.90 25 was for UPS.
A joke.

In a word, that is freakin' awesome. The delivery guy had a good follow through! Perhaps a professional bowler moonlighting as an UPS delivery guy?

<< <i>Here in Canada UPS is the worst way to receive anything. They tack on a $25 brokerage fee due on receipt for any package going through customs.

What would be the best way to ship comics to Canada?

Use USPS and Canada post, they will save you considerable hardship.

Or he just never came to deliver and I had to pick up at the warehouse!
I'm lucky I guess in that I know my UPS driver, nice guy on a tough route. Been very accommodating for us.
