Set registry question?

I have noticed several registry sets with one collector owning two slots in the particular sets, as in #5 and #6 finest. Should a single collector be able to take up two spaces in one set?

One person has three of the top five proof Liberty Nickel sets. If he/she owns the coins, they should be able to register them. They could always use a different name for each set if they had to.

I cannot think of a reason why not?

If a collector enjoys a particular series, they may have many different coins for the same years. Maybe they are using the Registry as an inventory method or maybe they are just proud of both of their sets and want to display them.

Either way, I don't see any harm.

  • I ( and my family ) have several spots in several series. We collect coins as a family hobby , and as we upgrade , pass our replaced coins to other family members ,who then use them to upgrade their sets. None of the coins are duplicated in any of our sets , so each set stands alone. I don't see any problem with this.

  • Point taken. Duplication is really the issue I was talking about. It is a major accomplishment to put together more than one registry quality set, and I have no problem with that what-so-ever.

I haven't checked lately, but I believe the same thing is happening with some of the top set of Buffalos.

  • Michael,

I know that you cannot use the same coin in a second set of the same type, which would be the biggest issue. Can't use a MS-68 Kennedy in 2 Kennedy sets, but could use it in a Type set and a Kennedy set. So in each case where you have the same guy with multiple sets, they did assemble multiple unique sets.
