This is listed in the Catalog of Unusual Coins and Medals as Krause X#1. There were a total of 25 minted by the Medallic Art Company.

...and beyond that, I have no information. Can anyone tell me any more about this piece?

The UN adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in December, 1948, and some optimist may have (quite erroneously) believed that it would lead to a utopian world.

The obverse(?) Latin and English mottos are the same, and the reverse motto simply means "silver coin".

there's a neat mix of symbols on it. i like how crude the map is!

That is a neat piece. I like the animals on the front and the UN logo on the back. I gotta think this belongs in the Deus Ex video game! Very cool.
