Civil War year added to my Liberty Seated dollar set.

I finally added a nice, original, Civil War year to my Liberty Seated dollar set. The coin is an 1864, graded by PCGS, XF-40. The coin is currently in transit, but looks to be original and solid for the grade. I'm told the coin has some peripheral luster, and has nice mark free surfaces.

  • Seated Dollar fans.....show me the money! (hopefully some nice Seated dollars). image
  • Thanks Dennis.

I received the coin today, and it's a really nice, original coin (way nicer than my images). The coin has wonderful, markfree surfaces and should look great in my set.

Good get. Any seated dollar is a cool coin. Civil war date is better.
  • Thanks guys, I appreciate the kind words.

    Mark,

You're right, way tougher than most realize. Since I started collecting Seated dollars, about a year now, I can count on one hand the number of certified, (PCGS, NGC, ANACS), Civil War date, Seated dollars, that I've seen available in the VF/XF grade range. Most of those were heavily marked, or just didn't have an attractive, original look to them.

Dan, good point about the VF/XF range. They are extremely tough below MS/high AU. We only have a single 1865 which is XF for the civil war dates. (In higher grades we have MS-63 1861, 2 MS-63 1862's, a PF-58 (Grrrr) 1865, and an AU-50(undergraded imho an AU-55) 1865.)
