Anyone watching the new MLB Network yet?

Seems to working here in Mass (went live yesterday)

Haven't seen Larson's perfect game yet though. Forgot to check if I was getting the channel or not until late last night.

Guess they were even showing the old commercials during the broadcast

I watched the Larsen game. It was interesting to see the differences in telecast from the 1950s. B&W obviously for starters, primarily used behind the plate camera for all the shots, no replay, little to no tight shots of players, no dugout shots, one or two brief crowd shots. What I liked was the pace of the game. Nobody gets out of batters box, pitchers do not deliberate on mound, and very little arguing with umpire about called balls and strikes (seemed like stars such as Mantle got a little more room to complain but not much). Game moved very quickly. The through out a stat during the in between interviews with Bob Costas that 15 future hall of famers participated in the game, that includes the broadcast team of Mel Allen and Vin Scully. It was neat to watch Jackie Robinson, Mantle, Snider, Campy, etc. play.

  • Yeah it's nice to watch. I don't know if I can take baseball 24/7 but they'll make it interesting. Good to see Harold Reynolds back on TV.

Have it here in NC. They had a program on the Red sox history this morning and everytime they came back from a commercial it would start from the beginning. Talk about "Groundhog day". They have some kinks to work out, but I think the network will be great when the season begins.

Fun stuff to watch. I loved the "graphics" where they superimposed the players' names in simple lettering over the picture. I suppose the Gillette commercials were state-of-the-art at the time?

Great game to watch, too, with Vin Scully announcing.
