<< <i>Yes it would , I've been trying to ease into them and just haven't went out and bought a book yet.
The new book would be the best way to gain information and price knowledge.

I have the 2006 version of his price guide that I use all of the time. Not perfect, but definitely a worthy guide.
the recent Holabird-Kagin Weber Auction for current prices.
The new H & K book had a price guide but the price ranges on some on them were very large.

<< <i>The Goldberg Sale, should prove a valid price guide for SO CALLED DOLLARS in their Feb-09 AUCTION.

or the recent Holabird-Kagin Weber Auction for current prices. >>
Actually, I predict that neither of those auctions is going to prove terribly useful in the long run. The Weber collection in the Holabird-Kagin sale was the result of a 40- or 50-year effort that focused specifically on California pieces. It had some fantastically rare and fantastically high-grade pieces. It was also was marketed heavily to other California collectors, many of whom knew about the collection for a long time and fought against each other during the sale. On the high end, I think it's going to be hard for people to replicate the bidding frenzy when selling pieces individually. On the other hand, I've already seen at least one piece on the low end sell on eBay for more than 2x what it sold for in the Weber sale a few weeks earlier (the exact same piece).
The Cosmique collection in the upcoming Goldberg sale was put together by a collector who was specifically aiming for top-pop pieces. When I took a quick look a the contents of the sale by type, I was not very impressed at all -- there are a lot of rather common pieces. On the other hand, when I actually looked at the pieces being sold, I changed my mind in a hurry. Common types or not, there are some very impressive specimens in that collection. (And curiously, there are also a few pocket pieces -- I'm eager to see what they'll sell for!). I predict extremely high prices.

True, and yet I regularly see sales outside of the ranges, on both the high and low sides. It's tough to get an accurate price guide when the prices aren't consistent in real life.

The Weber Collection of California Slugs and So-called Dollars had duplicates of many items rarity R-6, R-7 and R-8 which may have actually driven down the price ! … many will not be seen on the market for sometime .. and if they are 2x Weber may well be the starting price.
