A letter of intoduction

Having lurked on the registry boards for a month or so, I thought it only courteous to introduce myself before pitching in with any views I might have to offer.
My name is Jonathan White, I was born (and now reside) in Dublin, Ireland. But for three-and-a -half very crucial years of my life, I lived in New York City - 1967-1970. There I fell in love with baseball in general and baseball cards in particular. I progressed from street games of card-flipping (and pilfering, I am of course ashamed to say) to avid collecting in self-styled albums, the cards cow-gummed into place (God, when I think of it now), to ordering my first complete set to be sent to me by mail, series by series - Topps 1970. Unfortunately, halfway through the process we returned home to Ireland and the final three series got lost in the ether. Still my card collection was a great comfort in the homeland now alien to me that I returned to. I had missed out on developing an interest in English soccer and as a result was a social outcast. It was many years later that I got the opportunity to return to the US on vacation and renew my acquaintance with card-collecting which had moved on considerably in the interim.
My first Quixotic project was to obtain a card of everyone who had played in the majors from 1965 to the present (whenever that happened to be) and I damn near did it, thanks in no small measure to Bill Henderson - King of the Commons. But eventual access to the Internet introduced me to the finer things in life and I realized that set-building was the way to go.
My first thought was to complete the four sets from my formative US years - Topps 1967-1970. Then I determined that it was important to have the star-cards in at least PSA 7 condition, so that was added to the wish-list. Before too long I had widened my sights to include 1971 (those black borders, so difficult) and 1972 (an obvious choice for anyone who grew up in the Seventies - is it the typeface, is it the sideburns? Only my hairdresser knows for sure). And just for fun I decided to compile VG sets of Topps 1962 and Bowman 1955 - mmmm, woodgrain.
So there you have me. I am laboring under a number of handicaps compared to y'all. eBay is practically my only outlet and the number of sellers who ship internationally and accept credit-cards is limited to say the least. Still I'm making progress on all fronts and I'm having a ball.
One last clarification; my handle, liffeystynx, is not really a reflection on the river which runs through my native city. It was the name of a mock-punk rock group I was in at college and it came to mind when I was looking for a unique eBay ID.
Hope to emulate all of you in time.
Jonathan

Welcome and don't be a stranger! I've seen you start to post some of your sets and let me be the first to congratulate you. Its tough enough to find quality cards even here in the states. Your task is daunting, but I'll bet you have a lot of fun along the way. You'll find that there are many people who are willing to ship internationally if given a chance - the trick is to find them, latch onto them and don't let go.
Sets - 1970, 1971 and 1972
Always looking for 1972 O-PEE-CHEE Baseball in PSA 9 or 10!

After also lurking for a while I thought I was the only one from this side of the pond. I live in Gloucester, England but have close ties with Galway, Ireland where my girlfriends family come from. I too have similar problems with aquiring cards but there are some great dealers out there who are only too happy to help, FB's comments are spot on, find a couple of good ones and stick with them.
Welcome.
