The first one is better, the second one looks oversharpened and overexposed.

coins scan better out of the 2x2's
and make sure you have it set on the true color setting

Was in Ohio over the weekend and didn't have my scanner with me. These were old scans. After some instruction by my brother-in-law I will try more scans this week and try to do better.
