Brightness Issue

I would be curious to know how well this image appears on various monitors. I have discovered that images that appear too dark on my monitor (a CRT) appear just fine on my monitor at work (flatscreen).
The medalist is Herbemont.

It's dark and hard to see the details on my monitor.

On mine the one on the right is definitely too dark. Can barely make out the writing. The left one is better, but not evenly lit. The writing to the left of the snake is almost impossible to make out. I have an old, old flat screen.

It looks unevenly lit, but the color is fine and I can read everything on my 17" Gateway laptop.

Same here; Dell laptop with brightness turned up 100%.

OK. I played a bit with my very basic photo editor. I lightened the image as much as I could without washing out the basic color.
