I was up in his neck of the woods of No. Cal. I met him and his wife at a restaurant for dinner. A pleasure to meet them both and chat. He showed me some of his slabbed Ikes, many of which are varieties. I learned about "Talon Heads" and various other varieties. I saw and learned about a specimen proof strike that he found (very cool).

I showed him a Dansco Ike Album filed with MS and Proof Ikes I acquired a few years ago from a guy who had bought the set from Paramount in the late 70's or early 80s. One of my favorite coins in the album is the 1977P MS Clad. It has a strong, crisp strike and has a darker appearance. Lee told me that the darker appearance of the coin probably resulted from the planchet being annealed for a longer period of time than what was the norm, thus heating the planchet to a level that cause the planchet to darken in color.

Maybe one day Lee and his fellow Ike fanatics will collaborate on writing and publishing the "Definitive Guide to Ike Dollars".

Thanks to Lee and his wife for their hospitality.
