Okay, one last NEWP hurrah thread for 2008

Let's see the last darkside coin(s) that you added to your stable for this year!

For me, I have two that are new this week.

The first is one that i've wanted for awhile, in the exact Jubilee year that I was looking for ( I know, my quest for British Jubilee year coins is kinda' out of control)

I picked this up today from Tony Fein, and I like the toning very much. 1887 British North Borneo Cent in (what appears to be) uncirculated condition

here is the coin

Also, I received this 1897 Half-Crown in the mail this week. Nice light toning, with strong luster which my crappy photography can't capture. MS63-64 on the obverse, MS66 reverse

Arab-Byzantine Abd al-Malik Standing Caliph Coin

I was looking at Byzantine coins for sale on Ebay and found this one.
I knew nothing about it but it looked interesting.
I had managed to get a $200 bill from a company cancelled and figured
that I could spend some of the money on a coin.
I paid $34 for this coin.

I received the coin on December 18, 2008, and started looking up information on it.

Waiting for this one to arrive from Engand. Catalogued as Hampshire Southampton DH #7. Listed as Common but I doubt the mintage was high as I have not seen any references to this one for sale.

Put a "P" in front of there and I suspect you'll have it.

It is indeed nice.

My Salzburg 3-kreuzer came from him (TheBoz, that is).

Edit to add- the halfcrown in the OP is, of course, stunning.

Seriously, though, I just sent a book to my grandfather that relates to that coin and the area a bit north of your neck of the woods: The Salzburger Saga: Religious Exiles and Other Germans Along the Savannah. Really interesting book on the early settlers of GA and the Salzburger migration.

I've been busy buying over the last week or two, ending the year quite strong.

I have two coming in from Staircoins, and a King John hammered and a Henry III cut penny coming in soon, but these won't arrive until '09.

But today these two arrived this morning, I made a deal last week with LordM for these two Romans from his collection-

Those are some lovely pieces everyone, really like that North Borneo piece Doogy. I've picked up a few things in the past 2 weeks, nothing major just some nice pieces:

Great topic. Well, this was supposed to be my last new purchase for the year, in late October

Then I spotted this in Sedwick's Treasure Auction - The type was on my list so I decided to squeeze in one more

But technically, my year ended with this. Technically, it was a christmas gift from my wife... so I don't think it counts against me
