Discovery to debut 'Treasure Quest' shipwreck series on January 15 By Christopher Rocchio, 12/23/2008
Discovery Channel has announced Treasure Quest, a new reality series that will explore underwater shipwrecks and the artifacts contained within, will premiere Thursday, January 15 at 10PM ET/PT.
Each Treasure Quest episode will follow a team from Odyssey Marine Exploration, a deep-ocean shipwreck salvage company, as they take to the high seas to hunt for underwater archaeological sites and shipwrecks that were buried beneath the ocean's surface.
In addition, the show will give viewers a glimpse at forensic analysis of the artifacts and underwater video shot with Odyssey's Remotely Operated Vehicles.
The Odyssey team -- led by deep-ocean exploration pioneer Greg Stemm -- will also have to overcome several hurdles during the 11-episode season, including everything from dealing with inclement weather to bureaucratic roadblocks.
Some of the underwater explorations the Odyssey team will embark on during Treasure Quest's season will include searching for a 17th century billion-dollar treasure ship called the Merchant Royal, attempting to identify a shipwreck at a site they've codenamed "Legend," unearthing a German U-boat from WWII, and exploring the famous Lusitania wreck.
Discovery had ordered Treasure Quest in May and the series is being produced by JWM Productions with Jason Williams and Bill Morgan serving as executive producers.
