1997 Pinnacle Inside Cans - Open them or Not?

Hey all,

I'm a regular poster on the U.S. Coin Forum and this is my first time over here.

While visiting my parents for Christmas, I remembered that I have nearly
a complete set of Pinnacle Inside 1997 unopened baseball cans. I also
have a handful (no more than 10 I'd guess) of the unopened football cans.
I believe they may have been 1998.

Do any of the cans carry a premium that is worth keeping them sealed?
A check of eBay prices looks like most are listed unopened in the $3 to $5 range.

Thanks for any input! I think I'd have more fun searching them if they are only
worth a few bucks each.

For selfish reasons I say you open 'em all as soon as possible. image There's a Brett Butler card I've been searching for for a looooong time.

I second that, and the same thing goes for me except I need the Paul Oneill card.

Each card in the base set comes with two parallels - the Club Edition and the Diamond Edition. The DE is die-cut. I've never seen an example of the Butler.

    Hi Lope208,

I'd open them and hope for an insert/autograph.

Doesn't look like there's much interest on the Bay for the baseball or football.

Here's a LINK for a full case of 1997 Football @ roughly $1 per can.

The few '97 baseball can auctions, that are currently running on the Bay, don't seem to be doing too well.

If you do decide to bust 'em, please feel free to share any nice pulls.

    Good luck!

Very Cool Card, I am not even sure Oneill has a DE or CE in this set!

The gold one's are very collectible. I need the Young still.

I have ~15 of the McGwire's unopened around here somewhere.

He's not in the '97 PI set at all.

Now I seem to remember how tough the Diamond Editions were to come by.

An update for you though...I pulled out the box and it's the 1998 cans that I have
a complete sealed set. I opened the dupes last night and came up with nothing.
I think I'll take the box with me this time and open them when I get home.

Also, I checked on all the cards I opened years ago from the 1997 baseball set...
best pulls were a handful of CE. I thought I had one DE somewhere, but can't locate it.

I'll let you know what I find, if anything.

How can you possibly misplace something of such importance?!? How irresponsible....

It would be kind of cool to do a spoof youtube rip with the cans....using creative ways to open them.

I picked these up at a local card show. Very unusual. I would have thought they would have a pop top to open them easily but you actually have to use a can opener as far as I can tell.

Yes, a can opener is required to open these.
