PSA vs BGS

I'm sure this topic has been dicussed, but I'm thinking about selling my BGS cards to go with all PSA's . Who do you guys think will hold the better vaule in the long run. For example why does a PSA 10 1996 Kobe Bryant go for more then a BGS Kobe? I'm at a cross road on what to do.

The simple answer is that BGS has garned the distinction of slabbing some questionable material. Granted, all of the grading services have made mistakes, but BGS is notorious for slabbing sheet cut and trimmed cards that meet spec standards without hesitation. I realize they have made an attempt to change this policy, but the fact remains that there is a very large segment of their material that is of questionable authenticity and as a result, the secondary market has reflected this, especially with regard to pre-1998 material.

BGS still compares very favorably to the others of the big 3 with regard to modern cards, but if you're collecting anything remotely vintage, PSA and SGC are the wiser choices.

I would agree with Scott's assessment of why a PSA card sells for more than a BGS card. BGS is OK for the modern cards, PSA and SGC are your best bet for vintage cards.

Guys, thanks for you comments. I have a 1983 Topps Tony Gwynn BGS 9.5 I would like to cross over to PSA.
