So, if the Red Sox don't sign Varitek, who's gonna catch the ball? With Varitek's miserable batting performance last year, who do you think is in the wings to take over the position? I think Tek ended up with a rather paltry .220 BA...geez, how many times did we see him choke in key spots last year?

"The answer was in the Patriots eyes. Gone were the swagger and c0ck sure smirks, replaced by downcast eyes and heads in hands. For his poise and leadership Eli Manning was named the game's MVP. The 2007 Giants were never perfect nor meant to be. They were fighters, scrappers....now they could be called something else, World Champions."
<< <i>Big Papi and Varitek broke down right after the Mitchell Report. Coincidence? Hell no. >>
Varitek never was phenomenal with the bat, so I don't suspect him. Ortiz, I suspect.

Its so easy to suspect Papi, these little injuries are too common for him now, IE: The wrist
I was really hoping we could have somehow landed Doumit from the Pirates.

Sox still have a chance if they want to part with some prospects, no?
Im actually pretty aggrevated about the Texeira scenario- not that the Sox should have upped there offer to meet all his demands but I somewhat feel they may have dropped the ball on the whole thing- I might be wrong but I cant stop feeling that way.
<< <i>Bottom line we need to do something. I do not want to deal with an almost automatic out from the catcher position again- not to mention we have not added another big bat this offseason so it makes it a much more "Pressing" situation now.

you are wrong. He wanted to be a NYY all along and just needed some big market interest to ensure he could squeeze the maximum out of the Yankee organization

Regardless ( And it doesnt matter either way now ) we need another bat.

the only place to put an AVAILABLE bat is at SS or C. Is Texas going to trade Michael Young? Likely not. Anyway, I don't see the Sox filling both of those positions with people who will contribute on the offensive side of the equation. When the F are they going to dump Luso?
