There are lots of up AND DOWN prices showing today.

The 1810 has been up for about a week. I opted not to look today until I saw this thread. MS shows lots of green. Low grade shows no movement. Much volatility in the VF - AU grades.

Why would the 1814 E/A come down and not the 14/3? I find the 14/3 much much easier than the E/A.
Overall I thought the common date AUs would fall before some of the earlier dated ones.
I am glad the 7s are dropping though as selfish me needs a few more varieties of that one. But I am too cheap/broke to purchase them

All I can do is repeat the same thing I have been saying ever since you people started yelling that the sky was falling...I sure haven't seen any lower prices quoted to me when I try to buy. Nor have I seen any lower bids winning on any auction lots I pursue.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

I'm not sure what to make of this. There's been very little auction activity in the last few weeks, so the source of these changes is unclear to me. I expected some change after FUN, but that 's in the offing...

Classics rule the coin world. Watch the final closing prices on PCGS graded CBH's closely on ebay in the coming weeks or months, and report back to this thread.
PCGS is interested in all feedback relating to current and up to date data and not just major auctions, but real time data. FWIW, the market has a pulse after coin shows, so imagine what the "genuine" slab is going to bring out of the closets now.

    (my humble opinion)

My 1807 Small Stars EF-40 just went down $600 and I just bought one last week image

Looks like it's time to return image
  • Here's the overview.
    Price Changes
  • wow did not know they where tracking them like that does it all go off sales price on ebay or how does it work?
    image
  • those ups and downs look like the prices realized at the houston auction.

Based on the ef/au barkers and woofers I see offered in the fun show auctions, I suspect
you will see a whole bunch of red after those auctions.

It looks as if common dates in 55 are retailed at 850? That seems optimistic... very optimistic

I appreciate the thread...don't follow price guides too closely....this is an example of the 1819/8 small 9 variety.

I kept the seller's pics because they show the toning better than my scanner can. It's raw of course, but I am

fairly certain it is in AU condition.....opinions welcome. I purchased for about $225 I believe a few months back...

Under a loupe there are no apparent hairlines indicating cleaning. Thinking about submitting ... what do you think?

IMHO that coin has been cleaned.

    Sorry,

And...............it might be XF (detail) but not AU.

    Ray
  • It's alright....still think she's a beaut....I think the reflection on the plastic holder gives it a little washed out look in the pics. I've looked

pretty closely at it and can't see any cleaning...at least not harsh cleaning where it shows hairline scratching....it could have been cleaned a

long time ago and re-toned. I'm much more of a novice than expert in this regard, so you may be correct in your observation. I assume

then that you think it would body bag and not be worth submitting, unless it was to Anacs who will slab with the dreaded "details" label.

In that case, I would just keep it raw, because it really looks good in hand to me. Thanks for your input....

I might be wrong, and it has happened before image, but looking at the obverse there is a lot of wear on the coin.
    Good luck with your submission.

    Ray

  • You may be right about xf instead of au...I can see your point about the wear on the obverse...the reverse feathers also show wear....but

I've compared other slabbed xf45 examples and this one is much stronger on the edging, the stars, the date, the incriptions, etc. Is it

possible it was a weaker strike on the figures both obverse and reverse, seems like it would be unusual for it to wear on the center of the

coin only. Those are my observations and why I think it's a little stronger than the average xf coin. Again, it may be cleaned and get

rejected, but should I try and possibly waste time and money in having it analyzed or just keep it raw and enjoy it as it is? Aye, there's

the rub (pun intended) ... to submit or not to submit, that is the question image

I am deffinatly not an expert on these early Bust Halves, some have really weak strikes.
I'd wait for the cream to rise to the top before I would take my advice. image

    Well, since you asked...

The coin would not grade AU as there is far too much wear (look at the eagle's right wing, for example). Also the coin has been cleaned.

Nonetheless, it is a nice looking coin and I have seen far worse in "top TPG" holders.
