I like the Mariana Islands the most, I guess, and DC the least. Actually, I don't hate or really love any of them. They're all OK, ranging from "so-so" to "pretty good".
My take on them:
American Samoa- so-so.
Puerto Rico- I like it. Maybe as much as the Mariana Islands one- it has a simpler and more effective design, which could work better on a coin the size of a quarter.
Northern Mariana Islands- I like the scenic design, but it might be too "busy" for a smaller coin, as mentioned above.
DC- nothing against Duke Ellington, but I consider the design just so-so.
Guam- a little blah. So-so at best, but more effective than Wyoming's design, anyway. Haha.
US V.I.- I like it, mostly- it's a nice scenic design, too, but the outline of the islands off in the sky to the right of the palm trees sort of looks like strange clouds, or bizarre high-jumping fish.
I actually like all the "possessions" coins' designs, whether or not they translate well to a small coin. But at least they are all sort of like what you'd expect to see in a travel brochure to entice visitors to their islands. The DC one just leaves me cold - - kinda like the Alabama with Helen Keller in that rocking chair........ Maybe accurate, but not the BEST they could have chosen as a design. A White house in the center surrounded by smaller monuments in a circle might have been more interesting, as maybe would have been one with the man who designed DC surveying its construction out of swampland. But, then again, so would have been a pic of Marion Barry smokin crack in front of a headline of his re-election!! At least it would have been thought-provoking!.............
Regarding what Lordmarcovan mentioned......... my state quarter folders each have FIVE extra P/D sets of slots where I can put the '09's...............unfortunately, there are SIX coins being issued this coming year!! Oh, well, DC..... looks like you lose out & get stuck in spare slots in the back of the PRIOR quarters folder!! I'm assuming Whitman will pick up with 2010+ quarters folders, or start a similar series for the National Parks coins after '09................
Which brings me to another question for you Whitman folders collectors........ when Whitman re-prints folders or breaks them at different dates than before, do you keep your old ones & leave holes & then just pick up with the most recent folder issued, or do you buy all the new ones & refill them to maintain continuity?

hmmm, most Americans think of the white house, capital, washington monmuent, lincoln memorial, etc
Duke Ellington????? No offense, but when I think DC, Duke may be the absolutely last thing (or person) that I think of....

<< <i>The Guam one has a flashlight too. Do they not have electricity? >>
Looks like a Djembe (drum) to me
<< <i>I remember the days when Americans only had to choose from the lesser of two evils, now we're suppose to pick from six pack of them. >>
