Good news...
It appears that the shipment has been sent to me today and I should receive it by the 22nd!

Bad news...
My bank screwed up and sent the wire transfer in USD instead of GBP and overnight the exchange rate moved from 1.452 to 1.5 so I ended up having to pay about another $450 to the mint for the purchase.

Which means that I won't be able to offer as big as a refund as I had hoped. So your refunds will go from about $.94 an oz to about $.5 an oz.

Due to some prodding by pendragon image I've decided that I will submit some of these to NGC to hopefully get some 69s and 70s, in case anybody else is interested.

I placed the order yesterday on 1/5/2009 and the spot price was locked in at the London fix rate of $11.06 per oz. Once I receive the coins I will re-calculate the costs and issue partial refunds along with the shipment for those of you who overpaid.

The Royal Mint informed me that the blister packs have been improved and that they are the tight fitting type now instead of the loose ones that they previously used.

Below is what I have ordered and when it will be shipped to me:
500 2009 Uncirc Britannias - 1/16/2008
3 2008 4 coin Proof Sets - 1/16/2008

4 2008 £2 Proof coins - Early Feb
9 2008 Uncirc Britannias - Early Feb

As you can see the 2009s will not ship to ME until Jan 16th. I will ship them as soon as I receive them, hopefully the same day, and they should get to YOU by the end of Jan. (This assumes that all of the shipping is on time and that the mint ships them to me when they said they would)

I will also be ordering the 2009 £2 Silver Proofs and the 2009 4 coin Proof sets, but they will not be released until about July, so let me know if you would be interested in those as well.

    Some questions:
How are the coins divied up within the boxes? Are they in separate tubes? If so, what would the delivered price per tube be? What would the delivery date be?
  • 7Jaguars7Jaguars Posts: 7,736 ✭✭✭✭✭
Yea, I am same as BBQ just getting one per year as the 10.50 premium is a bit high compared to the other 1 ozers out there.

Right now I'm trying to gauge interest while getting more details. I am still trying to find out more on how the coins will be pacakged and when they would be expected to be delivered.

As soon as I find out those details and more, I will post them in my original thread.

I hope the RM got the bloody message and replaced those horrible open-faced capsule-cards.

I'm still trying to find out for you...I hope they got the message as well.

  • << <i>I'm contemplating purchasing a box of the 2009 Silver Britannias and I'm trying to see if anybody would be interested in "spliting" part of the box with me.

If I could find enough interested people, we may be able to get 2 boxes and that would lower the prices.

But with 1 box the terms would be APPROXMATELY:
(Assumes Spot of 10.83, FX rate of 1.4836, VAT of 17.5%, + shipping to me)

Spot + $10.50 + Shipping to you + 0 by MO or cashier's check or 3% for PayPal

I know that this is no super deal but it is pretty good for these coins!

Let me know if anybody out there is interested and how many you would want. I would require payment up front (so I'm not stuck with 500 oz and no buyers). I don't have an exact ship date yet, but I think it would be about the 3rd week of Jan.

    *****Added 12/20/2008*****
According to this website there shouldn't be any VAT. I'm still verifying to make sure. >>

    VAT is 15% anyway......
  • ajbaumanajbauman Posts: 1,174 ✭✭✭
I spoke to the mint today and got a few issues cleared up and edited the original post accordingly.

No VAT for me in the US, which saves quite a bit. But the exchange rate and the spot price will continue to impact the purchase price.

My main goal with this series is building my MS69 set (NGC/PCGS). I'd rather just get one already certified. Do you have any plans to submit any?
  • When you are looking to actually Place the order? Thanks...

I might submit a couple but I'm really not sure. And if I can't find enough people interested in splitting a box, I probably won't because the costs would be too high for me.

<< <i>When you are looking to actually Place the order? Thanks... >>

I'd like to place it today with the drop in silver! But I will need more people to commit before I would place the purchase.

I'd like to place the order as soon as possible, with the FX rate low, and the silver price low.

This entire post should be on the friggin' BST forum and not here...

Bumping the post makes it even more obnoxious and the primary reason that crap like this has been banned on this forum for at least as many years as I've been around.

Admittedly, I've got a soft spot for britannias...but we've had numerous Shameless Self-Promotions on the W&AC forum, and it doesn't seem to bother most folks. It doesn't bother me, anyway.

Has anyone discovered why the RM chose to repeat this design this year?
  • coinpicturescoinpictures Posts: 5,345 ✭✭✭
Actually, I see this thread as more of a community service/opportunity thread rather than an SSP.

Doesn't bother me at all, despite my not having an interest.

People always have the option of NOT READING THE THREAD.

Thanks all for the posts... I was trying to help out people to get the best deal that they can on these coins. Don't worry all of the ones that weren't previously spoken for will end up on the BST board and eBay. There are threads for people to share monster boxes of the ASEs on the other forums as well, same thing here (only better image )

    >>

I actually hadn't mentioned the pricing for the Proofs yet, so you didn't miss it image

The Mint is selling the 2008 4-coin Silver Proof set for about $145.72 Delivered (Link). I could probably do $143 Delivered within the lower 48 by MO.

They are also selling the 2008 £2 Silver Proof Britannia for about $60.20 Delivered (Link). I could probably do $58 Delivered within the lower 48 by MO.

These aren't screaming deals because 1) I didn't get that good of a deal on these and 2) I figure I can sell the 4-coin set on eBay for about $190 and the single proof coin for about $70

The price I gave above is only for the 2008 Proof sets and single proof coin.

I don't have pricing for the 2009 Proof sets and single proof coin yet, I should know more by June or July when those are released.

Thanks for your fast turn around.
Mine came yesterday and was pleased to see that there were no scratch issues with the
    Queens cheek.
