Name the top 10 sharpest numismatists under 30...
And if you can't think of 10 that you think are really sharp, make it a shorter list.
If you have any anecdotes, background, etc, let's hear it!

1. Bobby Jean Crawford - it is truly rare to have a female numismastist with such a great eye for toliet tokens! Collecting the world finest collection of tokens from outhouses, loos, port-a-johns and sh!thouses is nothing short of amazing; and to think she is only 26 and trying to raise a kennel of tick hounds at the same time, makes me envious of her devotion to the hobby.
2. Claude Dufour - Claude collects Euros in his native country of France, but selects ones that have been run over by taxi cabs. He keen eye, and the ability to spot the marks made by passenger vehicles, trucks, emergency vehicles and his specialty, taxi cabs, is extraordinary. If you can speak French, he can sit and talk for hours about the indentations made by the typical taxi tires, to include giving an accurate assessment of how many passengers the cabbie had when the coin was run over. All of this knowledge in a 19 year old teenager! breathtaking!

I learned something today.
I would second that...Paul has a huge amount of knowledge and a very good eye IMO.

<< <i>Here is an interesting add on, would you vote for someone for the board of governors of the ANA who is under 30? >>
I would. With the way the ANA has been run of late, age does not equate to experience or good judgment.

Jeremy Katz is under 30.
David Greenstein is under 30.
All of these would certainly qualify!!!
I firmly believe in numismatics as the world's greatest hobby, but recognize that this is a luxury and without collectors, we can all spend/melt our collections/inventories.

<< <i>Isn't board member WTCG like 14 or something? I think he is pretty smart. >>
Hardly...double that number and there's my age. Actually in the two years I think I've been looking older at a more rapid pace.
As for the original question, I don't know if Andy means that "numismatist" is synonomous with "coin dealer", but there are a few under 30 whose talents I admire. Ryan Carroll, John Brush, Matt Kleinstuber, Michael Berkman and Brett Charville are on the short list of whose abilities I admire. In the research genre you can't go without mentioning John Kraljevich.
I will also add that there are a few people under the age of 30 who either themselves or others incorrectly assume or think they have sharp abilities (partially based on implied or online popularity) but in reality do not have the skills or reputation to match up with the known young talents.
Although there are definitely exceptions, the majority of coin dealers' children who work alongside their parents in the trade absolutely lack real skills or talent to be successful on their own. It's easy to ride on the flow of success of dad, have dad's financial backing on purchases and spend dad's money on after-show dinners and entertainment but take dad away from the picture and most of those 2nd generation coin dealers will flounder in due time.

David Greenstein is under 30.

Thanks for the nod Julian. I would want to Add Roxana Pireh of Harlan J. Berk. She is making a strong name for herself in the world of Darkside coins.

Both show themselves to be well rounded and extremely knowledgable. Aww to be young once again!

I, for one, always bathe these tokens before adding them
to my collection. So far as I know all are modern and only
operate access to flush toilets.
Unfortunately most are stock tokens since few fascilities have
enough customers to warrant special designs.
There may have even been a "fare" to use Campbell's so called
tomb, but like so many things ancient, it's not well attested.

<< <i>I'm well under 30 but my numismatic knowledge (outside of morgans) is very limited. I basically just know what I need (about other series) to get by. >>
Your sharp DJ, I have watched you grow for 2 years. You have a career in this jungle if you want one.
1) John Kraljevich
2) Jeremy Katz
3) David Greenstein
4) Will Robins (GoldenEyeNumismatics)
5) Cameron Keifer
6) The Spiegels (They count as one
7) Speety
8) IRCWCoins (he's not on here much anymore, but he's a VAM genious (among other varieties) and almost worked as a grader for NGC (age 20))
9) Paul Mundt
10) Bryan Jen (TightBudget)
11) Lance Hipps (don't know him, but he comes highly regarded from those much more knowledgeable than me, so thus he is added)
12) Everyone else who I have forgotten to list and has a great wealth of numismatic knowledge!
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.

Here is an interesting add on, would you vote for someone for the board of governors of the ANA who is under 30?
That's a very good question, and for the hobby, I think that we should actively try to get some young folks on the board of the ANA, so it starts to act and look more like the ANA and less like the AARP.
I'll be 30 in April.
<< <i>Since the question asked for "sharpest numismatists", hands down numero uno has to be John Kraljevich. His range of experience and accomplishments dwarfs that of most who are accomplished and twice his age. He might not be the biggest rainmaker, sharpest crackout guy, or most accurate grader, but I could not care less about that stuff. >>
In my biz (telecom software) there is a certain class of people, who others could not equal given *unlimited* time. Pistareen is one of those kind of people.
Certainly Cameron Kiefer is on the list.
While I agree that JK is one bright dude, his advanced age disqualifies him.

TRAINNUT wins hands down.
Under 15 years old
He is slicker than Santa Claus
He goes to coin shops and shows and picks off PO1 coins out of old inventory
He prescreens moderns for 70s and buys PCGS graded bust dollars with the profits.

Seriously though I don't know all that much. Yet, I've only been at this since May of this year! I have 6 more years before I am DQ'd from the under 30 crowd.
<< <i>Ryan Carroll is still under 30 I believe. I think he's one of the greatest graders, period! He was known as the "whiz kid" as a finalizer at PCGS when he was around 21.
Certainly Cameron Kiefer is on the list. >>
X2. These are the first two names that popped in my head.
