Beautiful coin. According to Krause 258,00 of the original 500,000 coins minted were returned to the royal mint to be melted. Nice piece. Where did you obtain it and are there more available? Olmanjon

According to my records, I purchased it about 4 years ago from some vendor (G.B.I.E. Coins) with whom I was friendly. At the time, I was thinking of putting together a few Asian crowns and this piece fascinated me.

purchased mine from a forum member. I do not believe they are an uncommon find on ebay. Here is one.
Just got back from Albany and a snow storm and read the latest on the forum. Unfortunately this ebay item was already sold. Better luck next time I guess. Thanks anyway guys, Olmanjon
Ira, The Cingalese silver 5 Rupees is not a common coin at all.I had been after one for around 10 years before I finally got one for my collection of British Commonwealth coins.
The 1957 1 Rupee coin is common as muck,as it was put into circulation as a currency coin.

Ceylon? Why, yes, I remember that name.
I'm a big fan of coins, AND tea.
I still a need 1901 Ceylon half-cent and 1-cent piece for my daughter's 1901 Victorian type set.
