I didn't read fully e-bay auction, any recourse???

I won a 1973 topps johnny bench psa 6 for .99, which rocks, but the s/h i am paying is $10.99, which violates so many of my own basic principles, that i cannot elaborate.

here is link: 10.99 s/h (huh)?

can i cancel my bid retroactively speaking?

I noticed his other auctions had $7.99 shipping. But as for backing out after the fact think if you were the seller?

Report all of his auctions for excessive shipping. If he gets NARU'ed, you're off the hook. If not, pony up the $12 and leave appropriate feedback.

Send me your eBay account info and I'll do it for you... after that, ignore any messages you might receive for alleged purchases.

You don't have to leave negative feedback to show him how you feel. Just give him a one for shipping and handling charges. If everything is great, then give him all fives.

Pay up and consider this a lesson well learned..and at a relatively cheap price. And give them a 1 on shipping dujring feedback...
  • And he's shipping it parcel post too image

theres nothing wrong with asking the seller WTF he wants to send it "parcel post"..

also nothing wrong with cussing him a few times..

If i made this mistake, i would just work an extra few hours on my job to payoff the $10.99, and chalk it up to experience.
  • I understand that the shipping is totally unreasonable. But..... you did place the bid, and by doing that, you agreed to the auction's terms.

I would pay, inform Ebay of the excessive fees, and leave appropriate feedback when it arrived.
  • julen23julen23 Posts: 4,558 ✭✭
yea perry, it is hard to bid on an auction w/ a bag around my head.

i will not neg, but point out his crappy s/h terms.

I would send him an email (without the cussing pry) but still chewing him out for his shipping charges
Who know's, he might refund most of your shipping
But even if he doesn't i would leave Pos. saying that the shipping price was terrible
and then give him 1 star for shipping price

The guy should be thrown off of EBAY.

BUT, I would not NEG him if I willingly bid on his listing.

Dinging his S+H star - and reporting his BAD practices to EBAY - is really the only "recourse."

Giving him a neg is completely unreasonable in this situation.
If this was a 71 topps bench psa 10 that everyone else in the world missed and you won it for .99 with $10.99 shipping charges would you leave him a neg? or report him or give him 1 star?

You must take some responsibility when you bid.... Just my opinion.

  • rbdjr1rbdjr1 Posts: 4,474 ✭✭

I'd ask him, in a nice way!

"if he could make the shipping lower, as the $10.99 is unreasonable."

If he says no, I'd pay him.

But I would not neg him,

because he disclosed his shipping costs.

I think most of "us cardboard junkies" have made the same mistake and overlooked sellers' high shipping costs.

I know I did more than once!

    Another idea,

    bust his balls,

and ask him to send the card via registered mail! image

The thing is had the guy charged 2.50 for shipping the card may have sold for 7 or 8 bucks and you would
be paying the same amount anyway, With that said I'm sure many folks did not bid on that card for this very reason.

If it was me I'd email him and ask if the shipping is accurate, if so, I'd pay it but then I'd hit him on the DSR.

    Steve

    Good for you.
  • Totally out of line on shipping... Personally I might leave a netural if the packing and shipping time was poor. I would for sure hit him with a 1 star in the s/h charges.
    image
  • This is not a case you where you neg him. You did purchase the item and agree to the terms and if he does provide the item then a neg is inappropriate. I would just wait until it arrives and then when you see he only spent $1.50 on shipping and charged you $10.99 for it, then you blast him with a one for shipping. unless he really sells a lot of stuff, that might get him suspended for a month alone.

  • 1st off I do agree that $10.99 is excessive for S&H (actually parcel post might be more expensive than 1st class parcel and a lot, lot longer in transit time)!!!
That being said the more I read these forums I realized that there are a lot off CHOWDER HEADS out there. 9 out of 10 of the biggest whiners about S&H costs are buyers only not buyers/sellers. Shipping one graded card if packaged securely w/ delivery confirmation (graded card, between two pieces of cardboard, taped put into bubble wrap or small bubble envelope stuck in larger bubble envelope weighs 6 ounces (1st class parcel cost $2.02 add to that 65 cents for delivery confirmation (so you can satisfy the "GR"e"ED" bay and PAY "I'm not your" PAL delivery assurance policy) and you have $2.67 just in postage charges. Add to that the cost of a bubble envelope mailer and your close to $3.50. Don't even try to add anything in for your listing fees, final value fees and paypal fees. YEAH YEAH YEAH cost of doing business. Give me a break. Then take your package to the post office in your no cost auto, wait in line wasting "your worthless non-precious time.
You bid on the auction own up to your actions take responsibility. Maybe congress can bail you out.
This is one of the reasons why there are fewer and fewer listing on "GR"e"ED"bay, and fewer decent sellers.
My suggestion is for all the whiners to start listing items on eBay and see how fast they change there minds.
As far as the DSR I have sold items with "free shipping" and have been left 1's, so "GR"e"ED"bay brain storms isn't worth the electronic media they spam it on.

I am ONLY a seller. I wouldn't buy anything on that venue from a stranger unless my
    life depended on it.

MY objection to the S+H gouging is that it VIOLATES the rules that I am FORCED to
abide by. It also chases potential future buyers away from me.

Sellers who cannot INCLUDE their expenses in the price of their items - and have
reasonable S+H - need to move on. If they had all left long ago, the honest sellers
that remain would not now have to be putting up with the ridiculous changes that
    EBAY instituted in 2008.

Of course you could always keep the cards stacked in your closet and wait for someone to come knocking and looking for just the ones you have. that's always an alternative to ebay and screwing bidders on shipping.

    +1 for this idea
  • I would of reported the auction had I seen it before I bid.

If I bid/won and then saw it....it's my fault. I am accountable for my actions. I wouldn't use the "he's breaking the rules" to cover my error. Same thing if I didn't read the title..."Sorry, I bought the wrong card I don't want it". I've had someone say that to me. I was like how does that happen?

I would "whine" to the seller and if it is not lowered I would pay his fee and leave + fb but 1 star for shipping.

Ditto. This way he knows that you already have problems with his S&H charge and may lower the cost out of the goodness of his heart (or fear of a low rating). OR he may have copied this from a template and forgot to adjust the S&H for this auction.

  • storm888,

I agree with you wholeimagely, but how many times have you listed (for example) A $10 card for $4 with $1 s&h only to see no bids becaue someone else listed the same exact card for $1 with $4.95 s&h and they sold theirs to some "CHOWDER HEAD" who then turned around -'s that seller and whines on these forums. Like I said the 1st time $10.99 s&h is excessive & should of come w/ a little K-Y.

    It's a pretty common happening.

I have not used auctions on EBAY for MANY months.
If I want to give stuff away, I don't need to pay EBAY
    for the help.

I list BINs only, offer "FREE" shipping, and include ALL
of my costs in the retail price. I often lower my prices
as time passes on a listing.

I respect your opinion, but your way of thinking is in violation of eBay's policies and it does affect the sellers that abide by the policy. If you want to cover your driving time and car insurance, get an off eBay website and get the traffic to make it work. Also, it's super easy to pay for all of your shipping and have everything ready to be picked up at your residence or business. Plus you should be able to deliver any pre-paid card items (small orders) into the USPS drop off boxes without waiting in line. I'm sure you know this, but I just wanted to point it out.

Everyone here knows that as most are buyers and sellers.
